Polishing a 686

So I bought a s&w 686 stainless. My question is should I buy metal Polish and shine it up to a mirror finish. Or leave it as is. Anyone with experience?

What's it look like now? If the metal had any sort of grain to it metal polish won't be enough to make it mirror.

If you want to get a nickel finish you need to buy a nickel gun

Buddy did it to his gun. They offered him a much lower value in trade in. said polishing it makes it worth alot less. they then sold it and made money off it. it was gone when he went in the next day to get his new gun.
If your not trading it in, go ahead if you like the look of it polished. remember the value will drop alot.
If the cylinder is another material it will show up different, which is why a nickel gun should be bought instead, but it may turn out great.

Here's my 4" 686 that I polished using a buffing wheel & Flitz metal polish.

Here is mine, well, now sold, a real beauty, I used Blue Magic metal polish (Canadian Tire)

That was done about 25 years ago. The gun has seen a lot of use since then. Perhaps if I get a day when I am really bored I will repolish it.

Now that's more like it! I'll have to pick up blue magic, long time mothers user here and was skeptical about that stuff the last time I was in canadian tire.
