So I just bought my first revolver, a S&W mod 629 4.2" in Stainless. I was wondering if it was possible to polish her up to a nice shine? and if so can anyone suggest the right polish and method? Cheers.

Like I did for two of my Tokarev, i've removed the blue and polished it, it's like mirror now.

I've used : 2000 & 3000 sand paper to do it...

Thanks, I guess Ill poke around Canadian tire tonight and see what they have. I presume most of these polishes you apply just with a rag and buff out with a soft cloth or would you use a buffing wheel of some sort?

Hand polish only. Unless you are very skilled with a buffing wheel you can do some serious cosmetic damage to a gun.

For anything stainless steel I use a 4 or 6 inch cotton sisal buffer wheel on a motorized buffer with green rouge lapped onto the wheel. Then repeated with red rouge lapped onto a separate buffing wheel. Of course removing grips and any parts that are not to be polished.

Another vote for AutoSol here. I use it on aluminum, steel, stainless, brass, plastic (for example, plastic headlights that have dulled), fiberglass (removes stains nicely), chrome (removes crud & polishes, but doesn't remove the chrome), etc. I've been using the stuff for decades. I like that it's been (rigorously) tested and approved by the German government. I usually find that anything with the West German federal seal of approval is very good indeed.
