O.K. a real newb question here.....sorry if its been covered but I couldn't find it in a search. How do I polish? I've got a dremel tool and a willingness to learn.....I've got a marlin lever which I'm converting to a "large loop" design to start with. I'm cutting the lever, bending it to the shape I want then welding in a piece of metal to re-join it.....how do I polish out the weld points? Once I've practiced on this I have a Husky action which I would like to true up a bit.....any advice is appreciated.

I've never heard of polishing welds to smooth them out...i'd grind em first or hand file it into shape, sandblast to blend it then use rubbing compound and the dremel to bring it to a nice smooth surface..

File and then draw file and then draw file using 220 grit wet or dry paper and then 320 and it will shine pretty good... Park the dremel...

same sort of proceedure for raceways, etc.(minus the files)? I'm leary of the dremel as I've known guys to ruin feed ramps etc., from excessive polishing......

They problem with a Dremel tool is the only do a small area...

.. draw polishing using a flat support behind the abrasive does not create dips and depressions... it removes high spots...

A lot of harm can be done with a Dremel in a remarkably short period of time. They are useful tools for some jobs, when used appropriately.
