Hey, I have a S&W 500 and was wondering if anyone has tried to polish their revolvers? looked up the search function but nothing came up.

any tips? thanks

here's what i did on mine:
this is what i used
i got a cheap 14$ jobmate dremel on sale at canadian tire
a 10$ jobmate bit kit
i used some Mother's Billet polish (canadian tire also)
took off the grips
and polished it with a dremel

you will see the white paste becomes black when you rub it on the metal, it's totally normal, that means it's working!

it's going to take you a few hours to get nice results!
when your done with the mothers use so flitz gun polish to finish it off! and wipe it clean!

don't start with flitz, it's not agressive enough and it will take you too much time!

i went from this when i bought it

seriously it's not much work!
i just clean it reall good after shooting it with some hoppe's #9 and then i finish it up with a bit of flitz and a polishing rag to keep the shine

the thing is i don't shoot it much because im a poor student lol so i don't mind the extra step! now if someone was shooting it everyday i don't know if it represents a lot more maintenance!

i don't have many guns so i'm pretty anal about them, i like to change small things to make them look nice, basically make them mine!

FWIW
I polished the slide on my stainless P220
to a shine like alex has on his Smith and
to clean it I actually find it easier.
Powder burn and residue wipe off with no
issues and then if needed a quick rub with
the backside of a piece of leather with
jewelers rouge on it.

WOW. I haven't seen photo staging like that before. Nice touch to the pictures. But the guns should be more prominent than the props IMO. Still really nice though.

thanks for the compliment! i don't really know what im doing lol, i was just having fun after a game of poker i decided to use what was out to take some pics

i love photography but im still learning!

nice work alex, very impressive,

i like the pics, i always associate a wheel gun with gambling and booze. ;)

btw, id like to see a pic like that of a 220.

I'm new to polishing and I'm finding that Mother's Mag&Aluminum polish works very well.

What is the flitz for afterward though?

I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish from Canadian Tire on my 686 and polished by hand with an old t-shirt. It took a few hours, but not a whole lot of "elbow grease"--it was easier than I thought it would be. Not bad for a 24 year old revolver that's fired about 12,000 rounds:

looks great!

It's another polish a bit finer so it helps bring out even more shine and it's good for when you clean your gun after using it!
