I don't get it. Why are there 14" Norincos? I wouldn't buy any cheap gun for self defense, because of real or percieved reliability issues. If my life is really on the line, I'd want the best I can afford. I wouldn't buy any supershort barrel for hunting because they don't handle well for wingshooting or shoot accurately with slugs. If all you want to do is blast tin cans, I can understand, but seems like a pretty special purpose gun to me. Maybe somone can enlighten me about their appeal???

Like the "percieved" quality because it says Remington?
I got a POS 870 that I cant get to feed or eject reliably, and an HP9 that feeds and ejects everything I feed it....which one would be better to "trust your life to"?

Hmmm..."What do you mean I'm dead? I can't be! My shotgun says "remington" on the side!"

Actually I can afford to buy a Remington or a Benelli. I just choose not to spend extra hard earned dollars if I don't need to.
 
I could have saved up some extra cash and gone the Fabarm way, which is still less expensive than the Rem route, but went with the HP9-1.
Why the HP9-1?
Less costly, well made and reliable (never had a problem with mine) the finish is nicer than the Remington 870P or 870HD or 870Express and it has a steel receiver vs the aluminum the the Fabarm has.
Made in China, I would prefer made in Canada but what can I do?

LOL...no. The POS I'm referring to is a fancy new 870 express...I couldnt even list that gun for sale....I dont want to make my problem someone elses. ;)

The one in the EE is a wingmaster, and there can be no complaints against those guns. The wingmaster is what the express SHOULD be, and pretty much what the Norinco is. Simple, steel, well built, and RELIABLE.

The WM I have in the EE works flawlessly...looking for one? :D

I've got two 870's right now and the crown jewel....a minty remington model 31 riot gun.......so I've got the remington's covered right now
 
ok ok so the new rem express is ####tyer then ever we all know that.
But lets list the options.
top of the line Rem 870 sps like the marine magnum.
mid range rem express.
bottom norinco .
That being said what if there were a top of the line aftermarket 870 frame for sale that you could put all the rem 870 or norinco parts in, how would that make you feel ???

No Norc's for me. I am sure the steel is good but I just don't like the fit and finish. My next Remington will be a 870P with either a 18" or 20" barrel. Help me out here; what barrel length should I go for 18 or 20 inch?

Get some scattergun tech sights installed as well.

I'm not quite sure that I follow what you're saying. The frames, or receivers, on the 870's are all the same, regardless of whether they are Express, Wingmaster, or Police models. The only difference is in the finishing process.

As for all of the people that want an 870 just because it says Remington, those are the same kind of people that would buy a $2000+ Springfield M1A instead of just $400 on an M305 which is of better quality (forged receiver vs. Springfield cast POS).

Personally, I'd buy whatever is going to make you happier. I own an 14" HP9 and I'm very happy with it. Having said that, I've also recently purchased one of the ex-police Wingmaster's that I plan on rebuilding/refurbishing and throwing on the 14" Police barrel that I have sitting around. I'd much prefer the MOD choke w/ rifle sights like Claybuster has, but mine is a CYL bore with Scattergun Tech sight pinned on.
 
Unless there has been a recent change all 870 receivers are steel. What is different is the fit and finish.

The Police model 870s have several differences from the Express HD model including no MIM parts, no J-lock, heavier trigger spring, no magazine dimples, old style magazine retainer among others. The Police model is also better fitted than the Express.

If you can get a 14" 870P then it's the best of the bunch and you will pay accordingly because they are no longer being shipped into Canada. If not a Norinco is a reasonable second choice for a 14" gun.

I AM in the market for a 14" pump shotgun (not immediately, but soon) and personally I'm leaning towards the Valtro PM5, for its unique features.

After I sold my second Norinco rifle because the fit and finish did not meet my standards, I felt like I should have learned my lesson from the first one. :rolleyes:
 
Different Norinco guns seem to have varying levels of fit and finish, from what I've read you can practically narrow it down to particular models.

For example the HP9 and M305 are good to go from what I've heard, I have no complaints about mine. So are the 1911 copies. Most complaints that I've heard are geared towards their .22's, I've also heard about some fit and finish issues with their Sig copies.

I don't know if this is because certain models come out of different plants, lines or what.
