Poll: knife carrying

I always have a folding knife on me with a blade of 2.5 to 3.5". Use it several times a day at the least. My work is pretty hard on them.

Just when I think this military can't get any more limp wristed....
I weep for the future generations joining up now.
An old shooting buddy back in Petawawa had a picture of a C7A2 up as his desktop back ground. A female Cpl who worked in the vicinity saw it and reported him. Apparently it "made her feel uncomfortable" and he was ordered to remove it by CoC. True story troops!

Military personnel 'uncomfortable' not just with the actual guns, but pictures of them, displayed on someone else's computer. As sad as the story you quoted. My heart weeps.

Then why was a bagpipe player fined 200 bucks for the knife he had on as part of his uninform in downtown Montreal?

Well....I know a few pipers...it prolly stemmed from some other form of rude nasty behaviour than the knife carryin.... :)

Kiddin' aside....sad state of affairs....soon you'll be getting a ticket for being fit...clenchin yer fists..or scowlin......
Many municipalities are implementing/considering knife carrying bylaws.....it aint criminal but its still oppression...and a kick in the wallet...where the average workin stiff cant afford to take it.

And politicians are protected by ARMED staff...more heavily armed and empowered in relation to the "importance" of the politician to boot...

Both my Grandfathers and their brothers are rollin in their graves to be sure....fought, suffered, some died and some wounded fightin off this very sort of oppression.

I sometimes carry other knives, but this 10 dollar smith goes with me everywhere I go. Once you get used to carrying everyday you realize how useful it can be.

Funny story....

A year after 9/11....we were travelling on a family vacay to the Bahamas. My wife had let my 10yr old son pack his carry on, he was/is a pretty squared away lil fella so she didn't give it a thought to check his bag.
Airport security sees the lil packsack goin thru the xray and get all flustered and excited....
They dump the pack..... and a triple Dcell Maglite and a buck folder come spillin' out.....

They were less than amused....I laughed out loud. The boy was simply prepared to travel the world :)

He was pissed that they confiscated his gear....

1st thing we did after settlin in the hotel was walk the market and fix him and I up with a cheap lil EDC knife for our stay.

Always carry one with me... Has multiple uses and often kicking myself when I wear shorts or something with no pockets and need one but don't have it

Yes, I essentially always carry a knife. Usually a 3-3.5" folder of some sort. I carry because they're really useful day to day and it could be used as a last resort. I also often have a flashlight but not so religious about that.

Yes, always, but as an often-used and very useful tool - it has a seatbelt cutter and a window breaker also.
I never consider my knife as a self-defence "weapon"...

Kellie leitch has in her platform to make it legal to carry pepper spray for self defense...
Here in canada... you can not carry anything for self defense..
So if you ever had to use one to protect yourself... you better have a good reason for having it with you..
I have nothing against people that have them... i do at times as well... i let my twin boys that are 10 use them ...
Hell... the liberal government back in the 90s wanted to take pepper spray from letter carriers to use on dogs..

1. Always
2. I use a knife daily for work (farmer/rancher) I use one I can open with one hand or at times a fixed blade because I usually only have the use of one hand. When I travel I carry one cause if I'm going down I'm going down swinging

Isn't illegal to carry knives on your person? Or is that only if it's concealed?

Knife laws in Canada are weird. Basically they revolve around intent instead of the item itself. I can carry a machete as long as I have reason (going hiking for example) but If I carry a small swiss army knife to protect myself it is illegal. If you carry it as a tool it is legal if you carry it as a weapon it is not. As far as concealed / open carry technically speaking the law states that you cannot carry any WEAPON concealed however "weapon" is classified by intent so it would not be illegal to carry a knife concealed until you were to use it as a weapon.

This being said there are types of knives that are not legal to own in Canada including switch blade, butterfly knives and push daggers. Assisted knives are legal however.

I've carried a knife of some sort almost every day since I was about 8 or 9. originally it was some sort of cheap Swiss Army knockoff, then a real SA knife and a Leatherman for decades. There have been lots of others, too, mostly lockblades and a few small (or sometimes large) sheath knives.

I used to carry a Leatherman on a belt pouch but mostly it sits in my pocket these days.

Funny, I recall going to the UK to visit my sister who lived there back around 2001 or so. My leatherman came with me in my luggage and when we left heathrow I put it on my belt as usual. My GF and I went all over, even going to to some sporting clays shooting and eventually one day back at my sisters place, My sisters English boyfriend asked what it was, so I showed him. He had never seen one and said "that's very cool. Completely illegal, though. I can't believe you have been wandering all over the UK including in London with that on your belt, going on trains, into pubs etc and haven't been arrested!" :)

Probably got away with it because no one knew what it was haha. On a serious note I went and looked at UK knife laws and wow. Under 3 inches and non locking to carry in public. That's lame I'll have to remember not to bring any of my knives if I ever go overseas since every knife I own locks except for the kershaw carabiner I use as a key chain.
