Yeah okay, allow me to rephrase then. Covey seems to interpret the poll as "75/25 means the Express is crap", when satisfaction is a completely subjective concept that in no way determines if the weapon itself is good or not.

Anything could make or break someone's "satisfaction" of something. It's not really an effective way to evaluate the product's overall success or effectiveness which is how he seems to be taking the results.

The question is unambiguous, but the results are meaningless. Someone might not be satisfied because of the avaliable colours or the fact that it's not semi-automatic. Hell some dumbass could say they weren't satisfied because it didn't actually turn into a giant killer mech. Over 100 people voted, but there are less than 40 posts in this thread (many by the same people) to explain votes that were based not necessarily on technical functionality, but on personal taste as well.

Example: "I know I bought a $300 shotgun. In light of this, I cannot expect Benelli performance."

Maybe someone did expect Benelli performance? Who knows? Who cares? What does it mean? MYSTERIES ABOUND!!! (the answer: nobody knows, a few people care, and it means nothing except to the individual who voted for that reason)

He says 75/25 is a failure. I'd say it's not that bad considering some reasons for a no are good (ie: rust problems) but others may not be.

Or how about this. I'm not satisfied with the question :D

Better?

Based on the posts that I have followed over the past couple of years, I have a lot more faith in the intelligence of the members of CGN than you do. Newby. :)

I'll be as clear as I can.

I am not satisfied with the finish.

It is too rough, a pain in the ass to wipe down, and not resistant to rust.
The sighting groove - what sighting groove? - is missing.
It makes Norinco look good.

The "satisfied owners" voters include one guy who was actually referring to his 870P and another who spent $$$$ having his Express completely refinished, parkerized, and tefloned (Clearly he'd been a "satisfied owner", right?).

I hate the Express finish, and I am not satisfied.

Other then needing a new set of shell latches I like mine. Every so often they won't depress properly and release a new shell from the mag tube.So I guess I'm in the middle.

I bought a 870MM in 1997, I love it to this day.

I was excited to see the new 870 MM XCS... I am disappointed. On the one I handled, the bolt is rubbing the receiver, wearing away the finish. Unacceptable for a near $900 shotgun. I handled a tactical model, and noticed the pillar bead was not centered properly on the barrel. I am saddened by the QC of remington as of late. I am happy with my 10 year old MM, but I would have to handle any further REM purchases due to what I've seen, and I would suggest this to all who are considering.

Those of you who have never had any rust with their Express, I guess you have never hunted a salt marsh in bad weather.... almost any gun will rust over night in those conditions but the 870 E seems to rust before you even get home!

Anyway, The finish seems to be the worst of it but even with a better finish it is still not quite a Wingmaster... nor is the price so I guess it all balances out.

My point exactly. I didn't mean to come across as pro Express. As a NEWBIE(!!!), I was actually looking to buy a shotgun a few days ago and steered clear of the Express because of this thread, not because of the useless poll but because of the opinions expressed herein.

My first shotgun was an 870 Express, I got the combo. More importantly I got the full camo combo, it does not rust. I enjoy cleaning my guns, but the camo Express needs no special attention and loves to be worked in the rain.
Loved it so much I bought another, used this time in the Wingmaster, I can not tell the difference in the function of the two guns, outside of the Wingmaster being used (very well used) when I bought it so it is a tad smoother.
As I said before, there is a reason it is the most widely purchased shotgun on the face of the planet. It's not designed to be pretty and impress all the guys on the range, it is designed to accept shells shoot shells and eject shells, and it does that with better odds than any other gun. If you find a man who's life depends on his shotgun, odds are it will be an 870.

But are they 870 Expresses? Currently my faith lies in a Winchester 1300 until I can iron the bugs out of my 870 Express.......

You bet! Completly subjective in that it called for those with first hand experience with the express! and it required a yes or no answer! Satisfaction, yes or no? Seemed simple! Not so simple! Seems that many interpted the question as a popularity question. As a popularity question I would expect more people like the express than do not. More of them work than do not! The express is hyped as a copy of the most popular pump ever! CGN is littered with discussion about quality of the express and other guns as well. For a long time the express has been identified with quality issues that Remington or the dealers seem to do nothing about. Cheap or expensive, I expect the same as I would in a cheap watch! Cheap or expensive, I expect it to work first time and every time. Imagine if one out five of a popular brand watch did not work? I am willinmg to forgive a hicup from time to time if the remedy is fixed easy and the problem can be curred. There are many expresses out there, way more than half that are completly reliable and there are no problems, but the are a lessor amount that have significant cronic problems that go past the hicup stage to belch and puke. Significant quality issues and manufacture issues right from the start and Remington keeps pumping em out and dealers keep pushing them. Why? Because the gun buyers accept the crap they get. It is easy for Remington to ignor or to do little about the problems with the 20% because they boast of the 80% satisfaction rate!

Is my glass half full or half empty? Who cares!

What I don't understand is your insistence to restate your position over and over again in a thread that's intended to poll 'opinions' (in the plural) as opposed to an 'opinion' (in the singular). Doing so doesn't make anyone accept or reject how you feel any more than raising your voice in an actual face-to-face conversation makes you 'right'.

Know what I mean?

Not claiming to be right or wrong! Just reminding people of the obvious. There are significant problems with the express!

BTW as much as I think that your express is magnificant, it is a little like buying a brand new vehicle from the dealership and having a body shop re work the entire finish.

For the price I am satisfied, it easily doubles as a canoe paddle or baseball bat.
It has been submerged in seawater and mud and keeps on going.
If you do the basic maintainence it will serve you well.
