Just wondering where most people prefer to mount them, and why.

Over the reciever:
Does it hold zero?
Do you need a cheek riser to use it?
Can you still use your irons?

Infront of the reciever:
Does anyone make a rail system (besides Ultimak and UTG) for the shorty?
Ease of install?
Use of LER optic.....good for what range?
Do you need a cheek riser?
Can you still use your irons?

-over the reciever using a M14.ca CASM Gen2 Mount/Burris Tactical Rings
-on now for a few months, roughly 500 rounds and still holding zero
-did not need a cheek riser but found with my new Archangel Stock it does help
-I can still use my irons, CASM has a peep hole sight built in, I general dont use them

I've got one of each. The over reciever has held it's zero for many many rounds, and it's an old mount that I got back in the 80's, had it on my trw.
I've got a utg on another with a red dot on it and have no problem hitting steel plates at 500 with it. You just have to practice and get used to the hold for the dot at certain ranges.

I have both....Ultimak M8 with a Bushnell TRS-25 ...it will cowitness with the garand rear sight I installed.

And on my Archangel stock I went with a Arms 18 and Arms 22 removable rings.

PS...SAR techs rock !!

used the CASM mount, works great.
If you intend to install an extended bolt release at some point, a side mount may get in the way.

i've got both, an ARMS #18 with 1) bushnell elite tactical 10X, 2) bushnell elite tactical 3-15X, and a custom (Read, hand made and trialed) foreward rail made out of 4041 aluminium with a dlask rail bolted down with an COMP M2 in LaRue QD rings. it all rides nicely in a pelican 4200 with 8 magazines loaded.

I don't currently have a scope mounted on my rifle, but when I did, it was over the receiver on my Arms #18 mount.

It did hold zero.
I did use a cheek riser.
With the scope rings I had, I could not use my irons.

Infront of the reciever:
