Poly M305 Vanilla Accuracy?

My lightly used, basically stock out of the box M14,
with the iron sights,
and a US GI M14 fiberglass stock,
just shot some decent 100 groups.

With both 7.62 BALL and .308 Win ammo,
I was getting 2" to 2 1/2" five shot groups at 100 yds.
Both of these groups had 4 out of 5 shots into 1 1/8".

Is that good enough for a $ 400 Chinese rifle?
With iron sights??

PS: in my M14 testing, I have found several out of the box Chinese M14 rifles that shot 1" groups,
and almost all of them will do under 2",
IF YOU FIND THE LOAD THEY LIKE!!!!

The M14 type rifles are very sensitive to variations in ammunition,
I've seen the same rifle shoot 1" with one factory load,
AND on the same day, shoot 5" with another load.

So before you start accurising your M14,
try several different brands and types of ammunition first.

As a generalisation, most of the M14s I've tested like the cheapest Wallyworld / Canuckistani Tire available, 150 Gr Federal blue box .308 Win hunting ammunition, and do NOT like the South African 7.62 NATO BALL ammo. But there are exceptions .... I saw one out of the box Chinese M14 shoot sub-moa with the SA BALL.
And my personal M14 does NOT like the 150 gr Federal loads [ shoots them into 4" ].
Go Figger???
As usual,
with advice you get from the internet,
YPMMV!!
