As near as I can tell the only difference between the 2007 norico M14 and the 2009 Poly M305 is when they were manufactured.

Is that right?
Is there an advantage in buying one over the other? As in, is one higher quality than the other?

Also head space is way better and the overall fit & finish are much better. Plus you don't need WHIMS certification to clean the chu stock because it's plastic!

Great, thanks for the heads up!

I was going to wait for the Italian M-14's that Marstar was supposed to be getting in, but with no timeline on availability or even a heads up on who is manufacturing them, I figured that I may as well grab a poly or norc.

Concidering that the last batch of approx 100 Norcs that Marstar put up for sale went in 6 hours, I figure I dont have a hope in hell of getting one of those til the 3rd or 4th batch. I dont want to wait that long. I can hear it now....buy 2! I have shallow pockets, I will buy one and tweek it to make it my own.

Any other Information that I can gleen from you peoples I would appreciate!

Thanks again

"Some" polys seem to have better sights but many I have disected have the same issues as the norcs. Rear sight base centerline not machined at center, windage lock collar still not machined properly. The pinion shafts do appear harder BUT with a windage lock collar mismachined, it can strip the pinion anyway.
Rear sight quality in my opinion is still hit and miss

Flash hiders... No improvement. Still hit and miss when it comes to frnt sight base being tilted or mislocated as far as it's relation to bore. Giving many folks an impression that their sight is tilted due to the barrel being out of index when it is not.

Headspace seems to have been improved... With most examples I've guaged falling within 1.637 to 1.639 OR 2 to 4 thou over the 7.62 nato military go guage. Which simply put is a good thing for those wishing to shoot both surplus 7.62 and commercial .308 in their M14S/M305

Wow, thanks M14Doctor, is it expensive or hard to correct these issues? I was thinking of picking up a black Poly asap, is there something I should look for? The place I am going has a few, so I might be able to pick the one I want. Do you need tools to detect these problems, or is it something that you can see with the naked eye?

Test the rear sight, turn it's windage knob and see if it is snug and the same tension throught left to right range. Clicks should be positive and even thoughout adjustment.
Next turn windage all the way to right side and then adjust elevation through it's range, observe windage knob, it should not turn or move with elevation adjustment...if it does, this is the waning sign of a faulty windage lock collar.
Next look at the rear sight base itself, the vertical centerline should be machined center of the base, often it's cut too far to the right of center

Flash hider, have a good look at it, an out of spec front sight base will be noticeable if you look closely. It could be titled or off center.

Rear sights are easily replaced with m1garand rear sights and flash hiders and rear sight parts can be ordered through brownells
