I don't know if you have any of these north of the border, but I have been able to secure 3 in pristine condition.

From the bottom up:

IDE with 30 rounds fired. Ready to shoot.
New in the box IDE, still in the wrap.
New in the box with heel stamped receiver. Functional Poly Tech lugged flash suppressor included

PolyTech is gone as far as making rifles goes. So is Norinco. There's likely more Norinco M305's up here than Polytech's though.

Well officially neither really made rifles per se.

PolyTech being the arms dealing company for slushing funding the PLA of the PRC and Norinco being an arms exporting company for the government.

Be sure to send those pictures and any descriptions to Lee Emmerson (aka Different). He's doing a noble service by collecting the nuances between makers and publishing the information.

The supply of Norinco's coming into Canada is about to dry up. There is only one container left that is going to be imported.

All of the rifles that have been imported into Canada over the last number of years have been assembled from parts that were made many years ago.

BTW, nice find, I'm sure they are worth much more in the US than in Canada.

A friend up here has a POLYTECH and it's beyond rusted to crap as he use's it on his boat for shooting/hunting beluga whales ... been trying to get him to sell me it so I can beadblast it, re-park or paint and put in a nice stock with a different barrel, internals, etc ... a project ... :D

I have the same gun.....not totally rusted to hell....but it is poly tech..sea lions are waiting for the gun to quit working. Allen Lever sold poly tech m14's before he sold norinco m14's. They were even cheaper to purchase that to-days norinco's. The only marking is the serial number and the finish is so light that mill marks show through it. I have put 1000's of round of norinco 7.62x51 ammo through it without any problems. Vasoline is pure magic for boat guns...lube and waterproofing. The gun is "stock" except for the fiberglass m14 rifle stock. I have some additional poly tech that I bought at the same time and never used them. The first one is still going longer than I thought that it would. The only thing that should have been replaced was the op rod spring....chinese "stock" springs aren't as go as america m14/m1a springs.

Lee does awesome work for the M14/M1A enthusiast and he has published many of my submissions.
Per your suggestion, I will forward this picture to him

Polytech was actually a private venture owned by members of the PLA General staff of that day.

I have an early polytech - its the most accurate of all my norc m14's
