Great rifle for the money , a few weak points are the sights so if you have your pick of a few of them watch for the rear sights are sometimes pretty sloppy and check to see if the front sight is tilted left or right.
You can replace the rear with a set off a garand and if the barrel was not tightened on enough it will make the front sight lean to the right ...easy fix for both and if you are planning on putting on optics they are a non-issue.
As well some of the front sight bases were not milled correctly so the sight may not be straight becuase of that.
If you are out in Ont try and go to one of Hungry,s or if you are out west the M-14 Docs clinics..you will learn alot and get to do some work on it yourself.
Read all the stickies in the main battle rifle section.
Good ammo from a store is the federal blue box...150 grain

QC is a little lacking, but they are a great buy for ~$500. As mentioned, there are a few things that you need to consistently watch for. It's the perfect gun if you don't mind tinkering with it a bit. 
LOL I knew it would only be a matter of time before Hungry spoke up! He is the m305 guru around these parts.
As stated above, the only real issue is that the sights may be a bit sloppy. Depending what you want to do with it, new rear sights can cost between $50-100 (if they even need replacing).
Aside from that, its a GREAT (albiet heavy) shoulder rifle for the price! I wouldn't shoot anything over 175 grain tho.

Have the Norinco M14S. Can't complain in anyway. It's probaly the best new Center Fire Semi auto for the money, you can buy in Canada. Fully reliable through 225 rounds, which is chicken feed to what some guys have on theirs. And thats mostly running strippers through the guide and letting her rip.
I replaced the rear sight with a beautiful USGI garand sight from another CGNer because the aperture hole is ever so slightly of and I like aperture sights. The original sight worked exactly as the New Garnad sight in ever other way.
I have noticed the barrel or flash hider indexing off slightly but I can get windage without front sight moving off ramp base so its okay for now, and the more I read, its a common complaint with the 2009. Not sure the exact cause if its under or over tightened.
Read some of the Sticky's posted by experienced shooters and armourers of this type Rifle. Theres not much else compatible in canada for us right now with the FN and G3 etc on the prohib list, except vastly more expensive new manufacture 7.62 Bullpups or M-1 Garands, and look at those prices!
$399.00 G3s, seems I can remember seeing those many moons ago in the GunRunner. thought that stuff would always be avaliable. Oh well sucks to be me.

I'll do that as soon as the lame gun registry goes, then I willl look for
one of those famous M14 Clinic sessions.
My Poly had the front sight leaning to the right as you are looking from the butt end and the cuase was the barrel was under tightened , to line it up is called indexing , with Hungrys close supervision and the use of his barrel clamp and my vise the fix was very easy.
I replaced my sights with some of a Garand ($75 I think from Andy in Italy) as the windage screw was very sloppy and the aperature was not drilled in the center.I changed the op rod guide to a Rauch Tactical and added a Springfield Armory muzzle brake.I would like to chop the barrel and make it into a shorty .The Poly synthetic stock is pretty good but I first upgraded to a USGI in fibre glass ( big improvement ) and just recentlly to a Promag Archangel...so as Hungry said I now need to buy 2 or my #### will fall off....lol

This is great advice. These guns have a habit of multiplying. One is never enough.
Drool Drool, if Marstar still has any left in August im gonna have to pick one up, i want an M1A from Springfield in the future but one of these is on my list for the NEAR future, wish i had the cash to pick up all the toys i want instead of saving for them.
