poly vs norinco m305

I had the same problem Odd Shot with the mag release. Mine was due to the rivets put in. They were exactly flush, but angled slightly, so it prevented the mag release from depressing completely to release the mag. After putting the mag in and out the two parts have worn into each other and function fine. If I were you, file the mag rivet if that is the problem first instead of the mag release.

Are you happy with you barrel indexing? After looking at mine from all angles, I think I can conclude that it is fine.

The fit and finish on my Polytech (Lever Arms) is great. The guy said they were brought in last year.

Could you post comparison pictures of your Poly vs Norinco for reference for potential new buyers?

Thanks for the advice.

I've already changed out the parts I wasn't happy with on the Norinco and re-indexed the barrel.
Pic's of the before are here:http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...Norinco-M305&p=7969348&viewfull=1#post7969348

The barrel was so out of index that the op-rod was hitting it and binding up. See the worn part on the barrel in the middle of the picture.

The rifle is all sorted out now, and life is good.

There's no point posting any pic's of my Polytech as any pic's I take of it would be virtually identical to your's.

Oh that was your rifle?! I remember seeing that and got a little scared of buying an M14 for a while until Lever Arm's price was too tempting to pass up.

LOL!

Yeah, that was mine. I felt the same way about buying another one until I read the good review by another CGNutter after purchasing from Lever, and thought I'd risk it. The price was too good. Happy with the purchase.

Mine is all clean of the preservative oil. I'm holding off on reassembling until I can get some Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease. I also want to check the bolt lug fit to the receiver before I fire it, and if necessary, bring it to the gunsmith to have lapped to fit/check headspace and get that damned castle nut off. Oh and get a rounded op rod spring guide.

How are your rear sights on the Poly compared to the Norinco?

I'm happy with the Polytech I bought from Lever Arms but may have to replace the bolt stop. I haven't shot it yet but after cycling the action numerous times and locking the bolt back using the bolt stop, the bolt stop has developed a ridge in it that catches on the receiver where it is slotted in. This is causing the bolt stop to get stuck in place even when the pressure from the bolt is removed from it. So when I pull the bolt back to slam it forward into locked position, the bolt stop is not releasing. If I pull the bolt stop back a bit it stops being stuck on the receiver and the spring does its job of pushing it back into the non-stop position. Seems like the bolt stop is made of a softer metal than the receiver. Not sure what I can do short of replacing the bolt stop. Hard to access it to file it or modify it. Looks pretty tough to remove too...

Some receivers from the 2012 import batch have very distinct welding marks, and reshaping marks to the right side. While these receivers seem to function just fine, they would not hold the same value to an experience M14s owner or someone looking for one to do a build with. They are the only receivers from china that I won't build on, mainly for cosmetic reasons.

do you have any pictures of this? I'm to new to this to recognize this without reference ... T_T and Lethbridge while it has the one of the best outdoor ranges in western Canada (possibly all of Canada) it is not a hot bed of Norinco M14/305
