I am going to shorten and re thread my 2009 polytech m305 to 18.5 inch.

The gun smith says that he can do this, or for the same price, give me one of his springfield barrels that is already the proper thread and length.

Should i wait the 2 weeks to shorten my barrel, or get the springfield? My barrel seems to shoot pretty good (less than 500 rounds), and the springfields are used.

Any help from you guys would be great.

If you choose the Springfield route, know that you must use the USGI threaded castle nut AND the gas cylinder lock. I have them for sale if you need them.

If you have that work (cut down) done to you Poly barrel, then you can keep that chinese gas cylinder lock for the gas cylinder assy, and you likely won't need that chinese castle nut since your gunsmith might suggest another threaded (likely US Standard dimensions) pattern for a flash hider of some sort. :D

Give that some thought and keep us updated with what you select.

Cheers,
Barney

Chop mod sounds way better than replacing the barrel and cheaper too. To bad CanAm didn't import just some barrels at 18.5 . Then guru's like Hungry & M14Doctor could just slap them on our rig's instead of us having to explain to our wives why we need another rifle when we already told them we needed the second 1 to prevent premature loss of 1's man hood.
;)

When did SA inc make 18.5" barrels? They were 18" last I heard.
Is this a chopped 22" or an 18" scout barrel?

no idea.. it may be a 18.

i went with the chop on my poly barrel.. the smithy said that there may be some flaking of the chrome inside the barrel though??!!!?? whatever this means, i hope the rifle comes out ok, or the wife will kill me for buying a new rifle... (that remmie 700 sounds about right).
