PolyTech vs Norinco or hold out for a Springfeild?

So there you go: the Springers are sweet looking and put together well...the Norcs are Mil-spec tough, a bit rough around the edges, but give great performance at a price that's probably lower than we really should expect. Today you can buy 4 Norcs for the price of 1 Springfield.

Or...you can buy one Norc, pimp it out with the best glass, best target stocks, then buy a second Norc shorty, and STILL have your total investment be less than one single unmodified Springfield M1A...

Yep! So now your gonna be a happy Redneckhippie that carries a Chinese made American desinged rifle - and since this is Canada, interacial marriage is good here :D

Peace man!!!

I wish Poly Tech/Norinco were available down here for the price you are paying up there, but they haven't been
imported for about 20 years... used ones sell for $1K and they are still a better value than a new Springer M1A.

And THAT, is all you really need to know about Chinese M-14's before you buy one!

Oddly enough, I also read on an American 1911 forum that Norc 1911's had such strong frames/slides even back in the begining, that today they too hold a premium higher than you'd expect, because they make great "frames" to build long-lasting highmileage raceguns out of...be honest w ya though, the NP-29 I handled a few days ago was rougher than my M-14S...but $350 for a brand new 1911 is kinda hard to overlook, esp when they function well.

Usgi parts for today's Springers? Don't hold your breath. Usgi parts on M1A rifles stopped many years ago. Just keep looking at the EE forums, that's all I can do also.

Cheers

Not too sure of the authenticity of the one comment I was told by an employee at a local gun store. But he said that lately there has been a Canadian company that is doing the QC for Norinco products. . . like I said not too sure how authentic that could be. But he did seem to know his stuff from talking to him about several different topics.

A couple of months back Canada Ammo did begin to test their latest shipments of M305 short rifles (and the regular ones?) with a proof load after the barrel blew off of someone's newly purchased rifle from them. It's possible that the employee might be referring to that, but aside from confirming the safety of those rifles I'd call that a very minimum (though much appreciated!) form of quality control.

As long as you make yourself aware of the quirks of M14 type rifles and perhaps some of the more common issues with Norc clones, I would highly recommend buying one. We need to make it the standard hunting/shooting rifle for our generation as the Lee Enfield was to the previous, especially before any gun banners get another opportunity to restrict any more of our guns. Besides, you'll have lots of fun shooting these rifles!

I got my M1A in 2004 and the only USGI part on it is the barrel, and I'm lucky since it's a 1963 TRW barrel.

As Hungry has said, 2004-2005 is probably around the time that the last of the USGI parts went on a M1A.
