Yesterday I decided I would go out and get a rotary tool and do the bolt mod to allow external mags to slide in and out with the bolt forward. Upon completion I watched some more youtube videos green with envy of those who had both the bolt mod and the elusive marcus mag adapter. I figured I would eventually buy one soon anyways and couldnt help but wonder if I could make one out of the existing duck bill and shape it to do the job, while simultaneously getting my mags ready for the soon to be purchased adapter. After the second attempt at getting the shape right from the second duckbill I removed, I was successful at creating a piece that would allow my mags to be duckbilless. I used 4 black screws drilled threw the outside of the stock to hold the mag adapter in place. Its solid and doesnt stand out. I used a picture of the mag adapter as a reference and Im positive that I could still upgrade to an actual mag adapter with out having to adjust the shape or size of my mags. I use a compact saw to cut the duckbills off and a rotary tool to polish the mags and the duckbill to be inserted down to the appropriate size and shape. It took my about 2 hours to do two mags and make and set the improvised adapter. I did have to remove some metal that was extending into the mag well from the trigger group. I only removed a millimeter or so and which doesnt effect the function of the rifle nor does it effect integrity. My saw is cordless and is slow to charge but by the end of the day I had all 8 mags duckbilless fitting in and out with the bolt forward with ease.

Interesting mod very creative.
It would look a little less bubba if you had used machine screws rather than wood/drywall screws and then painted them to match the camo pattern on your stock.

If it functions well then good on you, because you now have essentially an SKS-D in all it's detached mag goodness :)

One day I'm planning to figure out if it is possible to use XCR pistol mags as soon as a buddy of mine lends me one...

I don't care how much I have to bubba it for this 10 round goodness.

I believe there was a very old how to article somewhere on the net *From: "The Weapooner" book, circa 1970s(?)(it was originally a print article, way before the internet), about how to adapt a regular SKS to take AKM magazines. It since has been uploaded to the internet, possibly the sks forums. It seemed like a lot of hand fitting, but a lot of handfitting is to be expected when you do these sort of projects. I want to hear how your gun shoots! :) Have a nice weekend, Tony :)

Edit: I actually removed the bayonet from my sks as well, although it will never wear tapco. I heard various rumours that removing the bayonet improves the accuracy slightly. We shall see. . .

Im not really sure what its called if its called anything. I thought I made it up. I just used painters tape and krylon.

Lol DIY is Do It Yourself diy isnt a camo pattern
Looks good though i kinda like it. You made your sks into something better suited to your tastes let the purists whine and cry and slit their wrists over it.
