Is it a fad? Or just a thing on CGN?

What's with all the oddball changes people are making and wanting of the beautiful #1?

So far we have plastic stocks, wanted calibers like a 30 Carbine?!? Some have picatinny rails, etc....

I know it's a great action, but the rest of the rifle is damn near perfect as well. We don't need "shoulder thingies that go up", or tacticool lasers and flashlights hanging all over them. Don't make the RCMP attempt to add it to their list of rifles that can be converted to "full auto" by some backyard "machinist". Lol

I agree with Cleftwynd on this. The Ruger #1, in it's various configurations, is one of the
Classiest firearms to be marketed by a North American manufacturer in decades.

In it's various permutations, it is gorgeous, and save mounting "suitable" optics, should
not be adorned with a bunch of stuff that will lessen the beauty of this rifle.

Of course, owners must decide for themselves, but it seems sacrilegious to impair this
example of Bill Ruger's ingenuity. Dave.
 
The flavor of the #1's has and always will change.
Kinda like the classic muscle cars of yore...
Went from jacked up in the rear to slammed to the ground.
Sucks seeing a classic all bastardized .
But, tiss their money , their choice of gun, but if it is poor taste its theirs and theirs alone.

Like putting an adjustable M4-style buttstock, a flash suppressor, and a handguard rail system on a lever-action .30-30. Granted, to each their own, and I'll never make fun of someone's taste in firearms, but some things simply shouldn't be messed with. A classy single-shot should stay classy.
 
Don't get me wrong, everyone has the right to do what they wish with what is theirs. I also believe that we should have the right to hunt/shoot/collect/buy/sell/trade and defend ourselves with any and all firearms. No licensing, no registration, nothing but proof of competence and a lack of criminal activity to be able to excersize that right.

Get out and get some fresh air as in triggers therapy .
Otherwise youll give yerself belly troubles worrying over what others are doing and thinking about.
Like fixing things till they break, then they will see the errors of their ways.

Maybe I'll take out the 7x57 RSI and develop another load for it. And no, I won't wish for plastic, rails, lights, lasers, or a bump fire stock!!!

On second thought, I better finish the laundry, thaw out some whitetail backstraps, then once done prep some brass first.....after all, it's almost -30.

Oh? How are those offsets treating you? There are several things that should be changed on the #1. The first thing they should change is to make a rib that puts the rear ring over the receiver ring, and the front ring back the same amount.

Sure... but, the offset ring works fine... only one required in the rear position... if they aren't going to adjust the mount locations, they should include one 4BO ring from the factory... style wise, I love the AH and International's as is... functionally, they should Bob the safety slide button also for unobstructed ejection... but it is a job that I can do myself or aftermarket...

From a design perspective, it has the fewest flaws, to my taste, of any production rifle that I have experienced.
 
They are amazing for their price point, but there are a list of things that should be changed.
They also should have made a smaller version, but I guess all the changes would have driven the price up.
 
I started off with a really rough #1 that cost me $500.

Most of the bluing was worn off, someone has previously rechambered it from 25-06 to 257wby.

Stock was less than spectacular.

Figured that was a good of a donor action as I'd get.

Replaced the barrel, cerakoted all the metal a nice dark grey color and currently replacing that old wood stock with something more updated.

Trigger also had to updated with something better.

I wont add any 24x scopes or flashlights to it but I'm sure it'll turn out nice when done.

The way I figure, I took what was an abused POS and turned it into something that's
going to be quite nice looking (but different) and very much usable.
 
The new editions desperately need better quality wood.
Thankfully they are still being produced,and in cartridges and variations never seen before.
I have a small collection of 19, with 2 more on the way.
With the lackluster wood and dollar differential these may very be the last "new" ones.
