Poor Ruger #1's!!

^^WOW. Anyway. How many guys hack off the front half of the safety that is designed to stop the empty case? Geez! Might as well put a plastic stock on it.

When you have used a No.1 in the field hunting you will understand why folks want to bob the safety... it beats having to reach under the ocular bell to fish for the brass or flip the rifle before reloading.

Oh don't worry. I get it. I just think it's kinda radical. Althought, the original safety does look like its the wrong one or something. It doesn't fit quite right.
At any rate they are great guns. I don't care how Ruger makes them. I dont even care if they have nylon stock pieces, they are beautiful. But thats just my stupid opinion that I'm going to hang onto. :)

I like the brass catcher, saves bending down to pick it up and or searching on the forest floor for it in the grass or snow! Only takes a sec to snatch it off! Besides, one shot - one kill, right?

First thing I do after taking a shot at game is reload as rapidly as possible in case a follow up shot is needed no matter the action type

Me too...

One shot kill, for sure... but get a second in the chamber immediately, cuz shyte happens... and fishing for brass under the bell, when like as not it keeps bumping the safety slide as you try to remove it, is a distraction I don't appreciate.

What's not to love! Wouldn't change a thing...

With my eyesight, I have three options;

1. See the sights, but not the target.
2. See the target, but not the sights.
3. Use a scope...

I kinda like to intentionally hit stuff, when I squeeze the trigger...

I find it only takes a split second to tip the rifle and let the spent case roll off, if you want to reload fast.

I'm down to my last # 1 and I doubt if I will part with it.
Originally a 30-06 its been re-done to 450 / 348 Ackley Imp. and is a fun little beast.
Shoots any cast bullet meant for a 45-70 and any jacketed that my 458 uses.
It can be loaded with mild loads or will seriously chase my 458, all depends how much ' fun ' the shooter wants..

adjusting tension of a spring under the forearm will have a number one spitting them shells out a long way

Depends on the cartridge and your particular safety, but many cartridge combos will always stop at the safety no matter how the ejector is set.

On my .450 NE 3 1/4" the case mouth was still in the chamber when the rim hit the safety so you had to lift the case off the safety manually, you could not just tip it to the side. TROP safety went on that one very quickly. My .300 H&H snags on the safety even if you adjust the ejector to fling the case hard. It now has a TROP too.

No it won't... the problem is not ejection, the problem is the ejected casing striking the safety and bouncing back forward.

I don't like having to tip the rifle laterally off target to dump the ejected casing in order to slide the second round in. Bobbing the safety or installing a Tripp safety takes care of that problem and speeds up loading subsequent rounds.

Edit; Cam beat me to it.

Easier to feed the family that way too, I hear you hoytc, getting older sucks...

I love the look of low power scopes, but in the end, hitting the target wins every time.

Is it a fad? Or just a thing on CGN?

What's with all the oddball changes people are making and wanting of the beautiful #1?

So far we have plastic stocks, wanted calibers like a 30 Carbine?!? Some have picatinny rails, etc....

I know it's a great action, but the rest of the rifle is damn near perfect as well. We don't need "shoulder thingies that go up", or tacticool lasers and flashlights hanging all over them. Don't make the RCMP attempt to add it to their list of rifles that can be converted to "full auto" by some backyard "machinist". Lol

Discuss....
Hey, it's all good no matter what we do with them!:)
