Pop rivet failure

I was recently handling some riveted items, when one of the pop rivets just fell out into my hand. It seemed that it wasn't actually installed by the factory, but just put in place and left to rattle around.

Fortunately I have a pop rivet tool and was able to instantly rectify the situation. So...if you have any pop riveted items amongst your belongings, you might want to check them for similar factory errors.

A word to the wise... ;)

Well atleast you didn't use pig latin.

Sometimes I think we are our own worst enemy. So what, the rivet in your mag fell out, put a new one in. What would you do if your at the range and you drop a mag and the rivet falls out, call the cops? Have them tape of the scene of the crime? No, you take it home and put a new rivet in.

maybe it was for a high powered assault weapon?!?

I suggest that you call the CFO immediately and request their help. They are most helpful with these types of matters. It might be a good idea to, if you send them your pmags with faulty pins, they will fix them for you and they will send them back to you safe and ready for you to use! I would also ask the CFO if its legal to own a rivet gun that is capable of inserting rivets into pmags, also do you need a permit in order to modify your own mags.

So much for trying to be funny... Given all the paranoia around here sometimes, I though a non-explicit tip would be appreciated.

But yeah... If people can get hung up on having the proper strength of storage safes, the 'right' kind of gun lock or transport case, having their paperwork in tip-top order and a whole bunch of other legalistic details, it seems to me that it's worth checking to make sure your pinned mags are properly pinned. As well, if you have any manufactured 5-round mags for your battle rifles, it might be a good idea to see that a sixth round can't be slipped in. However if you think this is a silly concern, please don't bother taking the 5 minutes to check...I'm sure no officious club or range officer or anti-gun cop ever will...

What I would do is keep my mouth shut, put the mag away and repair it at the earliest opportunity, all the time cognizant that I have a PROHIBITED DEVICE THAT COULD GET ME IN A LOT OF TROUBLE if the wrong person noticed it. Because I occasionally have the urge to be a nice helpful guy, I might mention it to my buddies, who could find themselves in the same position. Maybe that makes me weird in some people's opinion, but it has been a long time since I cared about that. OTOH, I suspect the urge to be helpful may be diminished in future.
