Got my first buck (or deer for that matter) today!! My first day muzzle loader hunting ever and only the second day deer hunting ever (went out saturday with the bow but saw nothing). This little fork-horn walked out at about 4:30 about 125yds away. I paced it so it may be more or less. I plugged him broadside slightly quartering towards me and destroyed his lungs, I forgot to look and see if the heart got hit too. He took off like a bat out of haydees, and ran right towards me, ran out of gas about 25yds in front of my stand. Not a trophy buck by any means but a good eater none the less.

Btw, the gun is savage muzzle loader running 42grs of sr4759 over a hornady 300gr sst.

Jesus man, don't you know that you are not supposed to put smokeless in that thing!!!! And those savage's BLOW UP!! Don't you read the threads on CGN?

Just messing with you. Congratulations on your first deer. That is awesome, a good shot and a clean kill. Well done.

What area you hunting in. I am torn between muzzle loader or slug gun right now. I am brand new to hunting, but have been bench shooting my Savage .308 for about a year and can shoot about an inch at 100m. Just the regs won't let me shoot a deer with the gun.

I'm in 92d. I have a slug barrel for my 870, but I'll take the ML over it any day. The recoil is way less, ( I keep dropping my purse with the 3" slugs:redface:) and I find it more accurate than the slug gun. The down side is you don't get a quick second shot, but I guess you just gotta make the first one count.
