Well turkey season being almost here,so I decide to invest in a hunting blind. Usually I go o-natural, but that has its draw backs. There were a few times where they saw me before I saw them.

I looked at blind with a chair, but didn't like the way the only shooting slit was right infront of you. I always put my forward arm side toward the target and sitting in that chair made that impossible.

So I went and bought a bigger one where I could put a stool and turn my better side to any direction the birds come from.

Additionally I can see this thing keeping me and my gun a heck of a lot dryer.

Anybody else use them??Are they more of a hinderance then a help???

groundblinds

I got a doghouse blind for father's day last year worked pretty well. During deer season the Turkey's walked right up and looked in the windows at me. Make sure to keep the back windows closed so that it is dark inside. Most guys shoot right through the screens they come with, as they are cheap to replace. Very unstable in the wind so it comes with tie downs. The brickhouse style blinds seem more stable.

useful but they can be noisy by flapping in the wind, and somewhat unstable.
The one that I have is not completely waterproof. Great for impromptu ambushes!

I seen the type with the built in chair.
They seem too restrictive.
My buddy has a doghouse type . You can move around and see in all directions . He's nailed 2 birds in 2 seasons.

I have one (Brick House I think) and I haven't used it yet, but lent it to a buddy for Elk season last year and he said it worked great.

Thats funny mine gets used as the outhouse as well:D I bought it for archery but my recurve bow is just to damn long I can't move around well in the blind.

I think the one I got is the "OUTHOUSE"

Dual purpose I guess!!!!!

the out house is okay, i shot a doe out of it last fall, but like somebody said make sure you have the backs closed, I was wearing blaze orange so im sure I stood out like a sore thumb, but if you can wear balck then do it, they will be none the wiser to you...

you will like the outhouse as its cheap and basic for the price, but you will find after a while it is small and cramped and cannot fit two people inside comfertably...
good luck though

I'd like to get one for Cougar Hill.... that hill is right out in the open with nasty winds . I'd have to anchor it down for sure. What kind of $ are we talking?

Suck it up mommabear. It'll make you get a nice rosy complexion. :D
Hmmm... and don't ya think this girl has one already... :D .. yea, Mike was just saying the "critters" would be wary of something there on the hill... they know their territory, so may not be a good idea... guess I'll just tough itout and sit in Fogduckers truck :D :p

I don't know if the deer would really notice, if you got one that was rock shaped.
The wind break is nice. Maybe dumdawg would be a "sweetie" and build you a shooting shack early, so the deer would get used to it. :D

OK, so now I'm in trouble with Dumbdawg. :D

you know momma bear you could always get the boys together and get them to set you up a "hide" in the face of the hill you wont get 360 deg veiw but you could likely get a good 180 deg if they place it right. if done right the animals wont even notice the land disturbed let alone you being there.

also i have a eastman pop up i paid something like $50 for at lebarons it has its own carrry straps no bigger then a back pack and weighs all in at 6lbs+/-

I was thinking more for turkey season then deer.

I bought mine for $79, so they are not that expensive.

Hey Mommabear, why dont you just get one of those lie-in goose decoys for the hill:D

Pop Up Blinds are great they allow much more freedom of movement than the traditional set ups and they are invisible to Turkeys. Hey if you want to look around, read a book, eat your lunch, or even pull your goalie you don't need to worry about being seen in a pop up blind.

A PU blind might work for you if you are confined to a small area to Turkey hunt. Like if you have a spot picked out to sit regardless of where the turkeys are and just wait them out it should be fine. If you plan on moving and being pro-active in your turkey hunting stategy the blind will be a pain in the ass. I would bet dollars to donuts that after a few setups and take downs when your chasing a bird youll curse that blind.

gth

Well I do have a good spot. I have shot turkeys there and the years I didn't I saw lots of turkeys go by out of range. I tried chasing turkeys once, they showed me who the real turkey was. An like I have said before. I have been busted many a time just turning my head or repositioning myself. I'll let you know how it turns out.

mommabear......on any given year (well almost)a deer has been taken on cougar hill........did not matter if you standing/sitting .
or even if you were by yourself or with a group..
so i would say......if you want to go out and get a blind..go for it:)
get a good sized one to keep yourself comfy in.
let it have all wall,s with a look out in it,and high enough to put in a seat with a swivel base(as you have to watch on a 360 degree peremiter up there)and if its crappy weather....feel free to use a a wee propane heater..
remember that deer you saw last year?
see they not as smart as most people say they are;) .
its being in the right place at the right time that counts
