once they discover a source of that sweet sweet adhesive, it's hard to get them to stop. I've had no luck with my seasonal battle with the 'Pines at my camp.
I wouldn't bother trying to relocate. If you're not trying to look at that type of solution.. some kind of deterrent.. bait with lots of hot sauce? Not sure if it would help
I haven't seen a single one all season. I think perhaps the idea of the metal around the tree may work. If not, Jays dog Nos has a desire to rid the world of the prickly buggers, maybe he'd lend him to you.
If you cover the plywood with an oil-based stain (choose a color to blend with your stand surroundings) it will stop them from eating the plywood. It has to be oil-based though as the water based / eco friendly versions won't deter them. Do it well in advance of deer season as it takes a while for the smell to dissipate (couple of months).
This will also protect the plywood form weather decay.
We did this to the plywood floors of our treestands and the porky's moved on to other sources of food. Cheers
