Port F block K98k

Nice!

@jb, this is mine. Sorry the photos aren't to the same standard or as thorough...i did a quick job last year and intended to do it right but never got back around to it.

If you want to see anything specific let me know. Just be prepared, my iphone is my only camera at present. :)

So, just a little more info about the stock on Capt.Canucks fantastic F Port. The theory is that these stocks without the crest or WaA's are Portuguese replacements. The font appears to be a bit different on them compared to stocks with crests and WaA's which makes it seem they were numbered by someone other than MO. I would imagine that MO sent spare parts along with the shipment of rifles as an armorers repair kit sort of. Perhaps this stock was damaged some how and then replaced using one of the spare stocks.

This isn't the first Port we've seen like this. If any one remembers there was an H block posted here quite some time ago lacking the crest and WaA135 that would normally be there. The font on it was slightly different as well.

I would like to see more examples with these unmarked stocks (other than the serial of course). It's an interesting variation on the Port K98k's for sure.

has anyone ever seen them ink stamped? my theory is that they were ink stamped and the ink has been cleaned off after so many years.

I've never seen or heard of an ink stamp on the outside of the stocks but it would be really interesting to see if these unmarked stocks have the trade mark MO ink stamp in the barrel channel. I know the one H block I have is ink stamped. Not all MO stocks have the ink stamp in the channel but it would be worth looking for.

This would prove the origin of the unmarked stocks at least.

the Eagle and Portuguese crest 1941 are ink stamps , the barrel channel regular stamped. the stock is well used ,as opposed to the mint H block it came on.

Are you sure they just aren't stamps that are well worn? Stamps in walnut tend to look that after a lot of wear and usage. Take a look at some of the stamps on my F block, particularly the WaA655's on the keel. They have almost zero indentation to them at this point.

The stamp in the channel is ink, the exterior stamps are stamped. Never seen an ink stamp on the outside of a k98k.

Also on the waa stamp you can clearly see the indentation made by the die around the W in particular.

In the channel blue ink.

The external waa and crest are die stamped.
The impressions around each letter are clearly visible around the letters and lower wdge of birds wing.

the external are blue ink . the number in the barrel channel is stamped. I can try and take other pictures but with out seeing it in person its kind of useless.

I am still using an old Olympus SP-510UZ and I would love to upgrade. I think I will ask Santa for a new camera this year.
I had a Portuguese 41 about 25 years ago. I traded it to a dealer at our gun show in Riverview because I was into black rifles. About 10 years ago I thought I would like to have another one. My local gunsmith knew I collected Mausers and told me he had a customer with a minty Mauser. I talked to the guy and went to see it, as it turned out it was my old gun. He wanted less for it than I traded it for, he also had an original bayonet for the 41s.
It isn't going anywhere, it doesn't have a dark walnut stock like some of the guns on this site, but its still a well crafted wartime K98.

There aren't any known examples of blue ink stamps on the outside of k98k rifles.

And if the Portuguese did it, they would be in trouble for using the e/waa135.

Right smack in the middle of the port contract where every rifle is identical.

So I guess yours is the only known example.

after looking at it with a magnifying glass you might be right ,guess I need better eye balls.

I'm only 30 and my eyes are done, I use magnification for everything. Lol

As jb said, old stamps in walnut become discoloured and very smooth.

Any pics of the rest of the rifle?

@Chris: Thanks for the compliment buddy! It's great we both have nice F blocks. Andrew is out of our club and jealous.
