Port F block K98k

Great rifle, and again I am blown away with the camera work. You got some skills jb.

Thanks! I appreciate the compliments. I don't know how much I have for skill but there's a lot of trial and error involved in getting the pics I want and lots of time spent so it's nice to see others enjoy the results.

What a pleasure to see such great photos of a very interesting rifle.
I don't think that I have seen a 'F' block before.
Fabulous clear markings shown in your pics.

David

Thanks David! The F blocks are definitely harder to come by.

NL-Hunter, the lens is just the one that came with the D3200. AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm. I do want to get a couple more lenses though. Something more appropriate for macro shots and I think the overall views could be improved with a different lens as well. Stupid lenses are just as expensive, or more, than the camera kit was.

One of my favourite rifles that I have on hand is a Portuguese K98 F block, serial F19218,that I purchased quite some time ago from either SIR Mailorder or International Firearms, can't remember which now as it was at least 30+ years ago.I came close to selling it along with most of my guns a number of years ago but just couldn't bring myself to part with it and I'm glad I didn't.Really nice handling rifle and a great shooter as well.

Thanks for the serial info! I was not aware the serial range for the F block went that high.

EDIT: Did a little research and found a high of 19555 for the F block.

G and F blocks were 20k rifles. But portions of those blocks went to the wehrmacht, so H which was intended to be 10k rifles, was extended to 20k.

Based on post 41 eastern front status, I'm surprised they got any more rifles at all. Haha

Yeah it's pretty amazing they continued to fill the order at that point. I guess with the manufacturing capabilities at MO, another 10 or 20k worth of rifles wasn't very much. In 44 they were rolling 60k a month out the door and even in the lower production years like 41/42, 10k wasn't a whole bunch.

@jb, this is mine. Sorry the photos aren't to the same standard or as thorough...I did a quick job last year and intended to do it right but never got back around to it.

If you want to see anything specific let me know. Just be prepared, my iPhone is my only camera at present. :)

No port crest, no german acceptance. And different font on the F under the serial on the wood. I'd wager that's a port replacement stock. Kind of interesting. Is the wood internally numbered in the channel?

Super condition and with matching bayo! Very nice Capt.Canuck! Thanks for posting!

I'm interested in the stock as well. The lack of crest and font suggest a Port replacement as CanadianAR suggested. We've seen this before on Port K98k's. There was an H block posted here and on another forum with a similar stock (cupped bp though of course).
