ported or not ported, that is the question

Are safety glasses are a requirement for international trap?

I don’t think they are.
Yes they absolutely are!
This is copied from the International Trap rules.

?? I remember being forced to wear them in the 70's so not sure when you think it changed
Cheers

For skeet yes would make sense.

It’s interesting you say forced did you not want to wear them or other competitors?

Trap not so sure.

Ported barrels have been around a long time and there are lots of people at my club and other clubs I have shot at that use them - if they were such a menace to public safety they would not be sold.

I have no desire to be involved in any banning of any sort - deliberately or through ignorance. So, I'm going to refrain from providing a long list of products that are a menace to public safety and can legally be sold in Canada (the gun grabbers can do their own research). Like most freedom lovers, my personal preference is to let individuals exercise their free will to decide for themselves. This in no way implies that everyone will always make the wisest choices.

A standard which presumes a product's safety based on whether or not it can legally be sold, is foolish. All products can legally be sold until and unless they are regulated. Following this to it's illogical conclusion, we're supposed to accept that a given product is perfectly safe until Trudeau renders it unsafe with the stroke of a pen?!? What a load!

So now we're talking about Trudeau and 'gun grabbers'?

This isn't a conspiracy, take your tinfoil hat off. Companies who manufacture goods - including firearms - have a vested interest in producing safe equipment. Having babies and kittens killed from behind your shotgun due to the menacing ported barrel of Doom would be bad for business, and the feature would be eliminated. No ban-hammer, no scary Liberal regulatory organization, just simple safety and common sense from the manufacturers.

Since the porting is completely safe and benign, it's a non-issue. Just don't hang your tinfoil hat over the ports because it may blow away.

Hey Jim and Rman
So these rules were revised in 2017 from hearing and eye protection being mandatory to the shooters , referees and officials being urged to wear hearing and eye protection .The original section I posted was the outdated one .You could have simply posted them to begin with however and save all the drama
here is the updated section .

9.2.7 Eye And Ear Protection) All athletes and other persons in the vicinity of the firing line are urged to wear ear plugs, ear muffs, or similar adequate ear protection;b) Hearing protection incorporating any type of sound-enhancing or receiving devices may not be worn by athletes or coaches on the FOP. Hearing impaired athletes may wear sound-enhancing devices with the approval of the Jury (see also GTR 6.2.5); and) All athletes, Referees and officials are urged to wear shatterproof shooting glasses or similar eye protection.

Rule change wasn’t made in 2017 been urge for a while.

Ports are a go as well.

As far as the original question goes ,Ported guns done’t bother most people that I have met on a trap squad or a skeet squad for that matter , not nearly as much as getting hit with an empty case from a semi from the guy next to you when shooting trap .
