It's long gone.

Nahhhh. you're kidding .... :D

In the same condition as the MKL example, I'll take as many Port 41's as anyone wants to sell me for the prices people are talking about on here. :p

Badger

Damm, I wanted that gun bad. I would have liked to show my uncle the rifle he trained with again. That was about 1970 by the way, if you want to know how long they were in use. Funny how much vets like seeing their old guns again. I showed an Idf vet a 8mm k98 from israel & he was overwhelmed, he thought they were all scrapped.

Something just occured to me. Did you ever wonder why Germany bothered with sending valuable rifles(at a time when they could have been better used elsewhere) to a small neutral Like Portugal?

They didn't send them all. They kept most of the "G" serial numbered ones and sent them to the front. The "H" series apparently made it to Portugal. I've seen several RC's that are Port 41's.

Like Badger said, they sent some and kept others. Originally, I believe the contract was for 20000 rifles for the Portugese but as Operation Barbarossa went down the toilet and the Germans lost a great deal of K98's on the ostfront, they had to scrounge the K98 manufacturer's to recoup. My high serial H block was Portugese army use only I believe.

Geez...one of me ole Mausers made it to the Library! I'm glad it made its way to a worthy owner!! And if anyone cares there's one advertised for $169 at the Shootist in St. Albert...But it doesn't look like a beater!!

Well thanks for the tip. I hope I got it. Just emailed the guy with my info and payment if it is still there. #### can't beat that price.

I'll let you know:D

EDIT... Way behind the eight ball on this one.. Oh well. But I now know of another gun place close to home it's just up the road from me so I will be keeping an eye on them as well. But how could he sell it for so cheap? A rifle like that should have brought in way more cash ANYONE??
