Hi, what is the value of an Portuguese Mauser-Vergueiro m/1904/39 Rifle with a matching bayonet? The rifle is all matching in vg condition. 8mm mauser

Geez, there's not much on-line about 'em. An original 6.5 chambered rifle sold on iCollector in 2012 for $300US. I'd guess(and a wild guess at that) your's would run a bit more due to relative rarity and having the bayonet. Mind you, you'd have to find somebody who wants it.

Somewhere around 300-500 maybe a bit more as it is all matching including bayonet numbers (check the safety on the bolt usually they are mismatched due to troops losing that specific part when disassembling the bolt). I have one and I personally traded a RC K98 with bayonet for it but the M1904/39 I got was still in the cosmoline and it has likely never been shot before me after it was rebarreled to 8mm Mauser. I like it better than the RC K98 so I am happy with the trade but value wise I lost out on that deal.

The issue is to find someone looking to buy one as they aren't really in demand.

pay attention to the metal below the wood, because the served in a humid climate in Mozambique, and most are badly pitted.

thanks for the info. I went and bought the rifle. I was advertised locally. The rifle still has cosmoline under handguard and does not seem to have pitting. All numbers I can find match: receiver, bolt body, bolt head, safety, floorplate, triggerguard, bolt stop, bayonet and stock. THe action is very smooth and the bore is nice. The markings on top of receiver has not been scrubbed. It seem it was used, but very gently. I am not a collector of these kind of mauser but I am thinking about keeping it. I will post pictures later.

Here are pictures. I thought the bore was dirty, but it cleaned as new as it was cosmoline. I guess it is unfired since rebuild. The old 6.5 has not been scrubbed on this example. Funny how some 6 look to be stamped as 8. Very smooth bolt. I don't collect Portuguese rifles, but I might keep this one...

They are very good shooters with good ammo Euro ammo. Try S&B 196gr as the cheapest Euro ammo.
American loads are anemic and string vertically past 200yds.
YMMV (your mileage might vary)

Looks like the bolt body and the stock have different serial numbers: 7984 instead 7964.
Close enough :)

BTW I just acquired a 1904/39 myself, will poste pictures when I get it.
They are one of the smoothest operating military bolt action, and the sights are better than on my Mausers.
I just hope that this one is not pitted under the wood line like the 2 previous ones.
