Positioning of handguns in safe

I have a bare steel safe and I’d prefer to not install the shelving that came with it, rather leave it as one open space. This creates an issue with how to stores handguns though. This isn’t the type of safe you can hang anything off the door. My ideal solution would be to hang them from the ceiling of the safe using magnets and I did find one option on amazon. Wondering if anyone else has seen or has done themselves a unique method of storing handguns in their safes. Apologies if there is a more appropriate forum for this question.

Magnets work well. I have in the past used magnets from princess auto. Duct tape to the roof of the safe kept the guns out of the way and out of sight if you use two magnets and lay the gun on its side. No scratches on the guns either.

You use the duct tape as a barrier between the magnet and the gun? I am a bit paranoid about long term storage using this method, concerned about spot corrosion where the gun stays in contact with the magnet. Any thoughts?

Let me guess you don't want to put the shelves in because you rifles won't fit in . or even 1 shelf. I wouldn't want to chance hanging a pistol unless it was by a very secure method. if it fell on the floor or bounced off the stock of your favourite rifle how are you going to feel . if it was a cheap stack on safe I would drill a couple of holes in the side towards the top to hold up a piece of wood . you could affix hooks in the wood to hand the pistols from leaving the center of the safe free. other wise get a floor safe. just my opinion. I would not chance using magnets.

I screwed a piece of wood to the roof of the safe and put in handgun hangers I got from select shooting supplies that go in the barrel. I can get 12 handguns in this way. the rods are plastic coated so won't damage the barrel. I have another shelf below it with another 12, and still lots of height for my rifles

I don’t want to install the shelves because if I want to reconfigure them I’d have to unbolt the safe from the wall. There was enough cursing and swearing getting it installed I don’t ever want to unbolt it (4 trips to Home Depot). I learned that wedge anchors and those tapcon blue concrete screws suck. Ended up using sleeve anchors and drop in anchors (different method for the back vs the floor). I do actually have to bolt an ammo case on top of the safe and so that’s a great opportunity to install a board from which to hang handgun racks. Appreciate the ideas!

I have a dedicated Hand Gun safe and another for my rifles. The Hand gun safes are cheap at Canadian Tire
and I just bolted it to the top of the rifle safe and to the wall.

I don't understand why you would have to unbolt it from the wall, mine has adjustable shelves , top 3/4 for handguns, other 1/4 is for couple long shot guns, magnets will not work and I would not want 10 or 20 handguns hanging from magnets any way, I use old socks and stand them up, the door things I have seen did not impress me, and would interfere with the dividers.
Those blue screws are made for install wood 2x4's on cement floors, I prefer construction glue and a few screws just till the glue sets., Ramset is better
Real anchers you have to drill big holes
It is not a good idea to have steel sitting on bare cement, as it will rust out, piece of rubber, plastic or ? for a bit of seperation
, or if you are talking about running screws though the walls, cabinet, not safe
What about installing a wood liners than you can install shelves? I use half of mine with shelves and other 1/2 for the few rifles I have.

I'm with Bart68, I have a sentry safe containing just pistols, 300 to 400 bucks, comes with a couple shelves, then I bought extra shelves from online store. One pistol per shelf or if you have lots you can get 2 per shelf. Add a couple dehumidifiers and your pistols are nice and safe from harm. I found pistols in same space as long guns 'problematic'.

Mine is a Huntshield and you need to access the floor and back to move the divider. The shelves you could probably move without accessing the back. I used foam board between the back and the wall and subfloor with foam board adhered to it for the base.

I put them in gun socks and stack them. Allen gun socks have labels to write which gun’s in it. Trigger locks fit too. Picked this method from Hickok45.

That's what I use as well, the Allen gun socks are pretty reasonable on Amazon.... but in addition, after they go in the gun sock, I then bag them in Crown Royal bags as well (you can buy them new, cheap, on ebay)...double layer of protection, no scratching or bumping, and you can put a couple dozen revolvers on a shelf....the only problem is when I want to shoot something specific, sometimes it takes some digging....lol

I’ve tried many different ways to store my pistols. I mostly have pistols and have a few long guns.

Don’t trust pistols on magnets or on the door so I store them on upright racks. Blued guns get gun socks. I made a rack to hold long guns on the safe door. Fewer dings that way. Pistols on racks on shelves in the safe.
