I was certainly frustrated when my first attempt at reloading was met with failure. I had followed all of the suggestions from the manufacturer, read up online, and even spoke to a couple of friends who were already doing their own reloading.

I set up my LnL Classic, with a Hornady New Dimension die set, had some once-fired .308 Win Remington and Winchester brass all cleaned and lubed ready to be decapped.

First case? Stuck. Second case? Stuck. The 20th attempt after trying a few different things? Stuck permanently. The neck was blown so far open on all of them that I could drop a bullet inside it. Brass shavings from the outside of the case littered my bench.

I contacted Hornady, and they asked me some questions. They had me send in a picture of the problem die, and then a few days later I received an e-mail: They're sending me an entirely new decapping die, zip spindle set, and a different type of lube to try.

All around, a negative experience turned very positive through excellent customer service.

I like Hornady designs, but my experience is that they have always had quality control issues. The first thing I ever bought from them, a set of .357 Mag dies in 1991, had to go back under warrantee. The most recent things I bought from them, a LNL Progressive press and multiple shellplates, are currently back in Nebraska to be replaced. There have been other items in between that had to go back, as well.

The good news is that Hornady customer service has always come through for me. I have always been happy, in the end.
