I'm looking at a POSP scope for a CZ 858 and have been doing some research and have come across some talk similar to the quote below...

"MOST IMPORTANTLY FOR POSP SCOPES = The 400 meter recticle is calibrated for the 7.62x39 round.
The 1,000 meter recticle is calibrated for the 7.62x54R "light ball" round."

Question #1
Can anyone confirm this? I've noticed the 400/1000m rangefinders... but nothing in reference to the reticles.

Question #2
Is there a legend for the scope naming convention? Ie what does the B, W and D mean on interammo scope listings vs the D, M and V found on the Russian POSP site. I think I have figured out the W=weaver mount and the D=Diopter adjust but the rest has me stumped.

Question #3
The Russian POSP site (http://www.posp.ru/posp.html) has the scopes grouped into, what looks like, a shorter side mount and a group with a taller side mount. Is one or the other specific to a CZ 858 or can you use either the taller or shorter one.

Cheers
Freeze

This reticale has a BDC for 100 meter's to 300 meter's. Also the scale to the left is made for a man sized target from 200 meter's to 1000 meter's.

It worked great on my rifle but then again I got a real big head!:p

Thanks Satain. That looks slick.

I have been given some new information.

The Russian POSP site notes that the scopes with the SVD mount are for the PSL, SSG-97 and Russian SVD etc. All of those guns are shooting 7.62x54R.

So it could stand to reason that, on the scopes with the SVD mount, the three chevrons would be for 100-300m calibrated for the 7.62x54R and would not be the accurate for a 7.62x39 round.

Not realy because the SkS factor.
Alot of SkS rifles out there and alot of them use the SVD mount. Also the SkS barrel length is almost the same as the 858 hence why I got a Kassat mount and a SVD style x39mm BDC scope.

I see what you are saying. I though it maybe had something to do with the height of the scope above the barrel. I'm sure I've seen the tall and short mounts used on all kinds of rifles.

I did find some more info on another site...
"The 400 meter Simonov height based gradient (choke style) rangefinder has holdover aiming marks for quick reaction shooting at 100, 200, and 300 meters, when used with 7.62x39mm. "

And...
"The 1000 meter Dragunov height based gradient (choke style) rangefinder has extended distance inverted chevrons providing aiming points for 1000, 1100, and 1200 meters when used with the 7.62x54R caliber."

Followed by...
"Since the range calibrations for both the AK and SVD versions on both the 1000 meter Dragunov and 400 meter Simonov models are measured in equal amounts of MOA, all versions of the POSP can be used effectively with any caliber of weapon. They are particularly effective for .308 caliber weapons which require longer range reticles to make full use of their capabilities. "

But how many people are shooting their 7.62x39 rounds 1000m plus? So there's no point in using the 1000m range finder scope. Unless the same chevrons work if sighted in at 100m, giving 100-200-300m aim points.

Satain... ever go through the work to confirm yours?

Found that mine worked preaty good at all three chevrons. What I did was line up the top of cheveron #2 underneath a gong at 2oo meter's at 100 meters the #1 cheveron covered the bullseye of the target and 300 meter's the bottom 2 tips draw a line threw the middle of the bulls eye on the target when shooting 123gr. nork silver box.
Here are a couple of charts for you to look at;
