This guy wants me to watch his pistols while he's away on holidays, and I was wondering what the legal way to do this? Does he need an ATT to bring them over? I have my restricted license but I'm new to this situation. I have looked at the cfc website but couldn't find answers. Thanks in advance.

Yes, he'd need a short-term ATT to bring them over, and another to return them. It's not that hard to do. I'm sure someone will chime in with better info, though...

Assuming you're both licensed for the class(es) of firearms, your friend will call the CFO's office for an ATT "for temporary storage". The paper copy of this ATT, along with paper copies if the registration certificates for each firearm, will serve as authorization for up to one year.

It's called "borrowing". Meet at the range, grab his guns and registration along with a written note stating that you are "borrowing" his firearms and go home. There is no requirement to tell anyone that you have loaned out or are borrowing firearms. Registration and a note indicating are all that is required.

Personally I would lock up the guns and head over to my buddy's place where they will be stored while away.

but if you only have a RPAL and dont have an long term ATT you can't do this.

soem other provinces are more particular with ATT's and list each specific firearm, here ther is a line to the effect of 'All registered restricteds' which is nice. :D

Woodchopper,

True, if the person caring for the firearms has no ATT there would be issues.

My LTATT here in ON specifically states all firearms registered to MY address. So that wouldn't work.

Definitely call the CFO, this isn't advice you should be getting from an internet forum.

But the poster is in BC. My LTATT has the "For all registered restricteds" thing on it.

Check your LTATT to see what it says regarding specific guns.

Thanks for the info guys, we are definitely going to call the cfo, I have my restricted but don't own any pistols "YET", hence no LTATT, but will rectify this situation soon. I have my eye on a S&W M&P 40. :D
