Possible Chamber Issue on a new rifle?

So I was out shooting last night and ran across something I'm not sure is an issue or not. I like the single shot rifles so I'm starting to collect them and one of them when I'm extracting the expended shell you can feel something dragging on the shell in the chamber wall. Loading the shell is pretty easy but fairly tight as it's a NEW rifle. On the extracted brass you can see some lite scuffing almost scratches in the empty brass. My question is this par for the type of action and I don't need to worry about it as it will smooth out with use or do I need to get my Chamber cleaned up at a gun smith? I can't see anything in the chamber but that doesn't mean anything as it's a smaller caliber rifle. Idea's or experience if you have any would be appreciated. I like the rifle and want to go shoot it some more but don't want to ruin the brass I have for it.

Thanks
CK

hello a little help? Do I need to just keep shooting the gun and it will rub out or do I need to visit a smith to get the chamber cleaned out? Or do I need to take a brush to it first and give it a good scrubbing (dremal with a wire brush) first? Never had this kind of issue before and Need help before I possibly throw good money away for no reason.

Do you have a photo of a fired shell? If it is brand new contact the manufacturer. why pay a smith to fix a warranty issue?

Price of shipping isn't usually covered in the warranty and for something as small as getting the chamber polished it be cheaper to get a local smith I trust to do it then pay shipping for it to be done by warranty and much faster since I'm WEST COAST. I'll dig out a shell but it looks like someone dragged something across the brass not really noticeable in most lighting.

I have a 1885 High wall that does the same thing (haven't got it fixed yet). In my case it's a slight burr on the side of the extractor groove. The burr catches on the brass on the way out. You don't notice it when loading unless using fireformed brass.

Chris.

Lots of rifles and shotguns scuff the brass a bit - particularly single shots with extractors/ ejectors that push the cartridge on one side. If it is ejecting the spent cartridge, I wouldnt worry about it.

Probably it is nothing to worry about, but clearly it bugs you, and it is something different than is the case with your other single shot rifles. That being the case I think getting the chamber checked with a bore scope might be worth the trouble for your piece of mind.

The Extractor is at the bottom (6 O'clock) the marks are around the 2-3 O'clock area. As I'm a southpaw when I'm pulling out the brass it's RIGHT there so it was the first thing I saw on the brass. I always inspect the brass fired in new to me guns (even factory new guns) to look for signs of stress to make sure it's safe to shoot more rounds. Lemons don't all look like lemons. I'd say it's not the Extractor though the theory is otherwise sound.

Reason I posted the initial post to see what people think got a few PMs about it being a burr and to look for it. Seems burrs only affect brass after it's been fired as it's expands to the dimensions of your chamber thus making contact with any burrs that would normally not be noticed. Gonna look for it and if I have one get it fixed.

Thanks for the advice here and in PM's people much appreciated your all top notch.

I'm having the same issue with my brand new 25/06 barrel. I didn't think too much about it as it shoots really well.(Only 40 rounds so far)

When I put the shell in it seems to go smoothly. Once fired, its a little tough to get out. I didn't see any scratches on the brass. I didn't inspect it too closely.

I also gave the gun a good once over when I first got it. Visual check and cleaning. No apparent problems. I think I'm going to leave mine. Like I said, its a real good shooter. I will keep this in the back of my head next time I'm out shooting.

I think you missed my point about the extractor. Since it pushes the shell from one side of the chamber, the tendency is to "wedge" the shell as it extracts. This leaves the shell prone to being scuffed on the chamber lip, in a location away from the extractor.
OK - Buy some crocus cloth at the hardware store, wrap it around your finger or a case, and go at it. This is what is commonly done by local "smiths" Clean the chamber when finished. Report back to us.

You can't get a good look in the chamber? Take the barrel off and shine a bright light in there! How far down the case do these scuff marks start? Probably just near the case head and then extend along as you remove the case which would be a small burr right at the chamber mouth. It shouldn't be that hard to find. If you can't see or feel anything then there is probably nothing to worry about. If there is a visible flaw then get TC to take care of it. Your dealer can put you in touch with their distributor or factory rep. If it is the same one my dealer uses they are based in Vancouver. They replaced my defective 7mm barrel in 3 weeks as they didn't have one in stock and had to get one from TC or it would have been instantly. Don't get your dealer to do it, just find out who the distributor/rep is and talk to them for yourself.
