Possible issue with LAR15 10 round mags, or maybe the rifle

I recently placed and order for 10 of the 10 round LAR mags from Questar. Mags look great and function well.

However, I am finding that the LAR15 mags, when inserted empty into my AR-15, don't allow me to pull the bolt fully back. This is not an issue with other magazines such as a pmag that I have.

Is anyone aware of any issues, or common problems with these mags? Or does anyone else have the same issue?

Thanks!

Well, yes, it is a problem because if I were to load and fire the last round out of one of these mags, the bolt will fail to open fully as it appears to be catching on something, prohibiting it from being able to open. Is just moves back 1/2" and can only move forward until the empty mag is removed.

I think this would be bad if the bolt carrier were to be pushed back with a lot of force as it just jams right now under very little force. Again, this is not an issue with the one 5/30 pmag I have.

I personally recommend ditching the LAR mags and going with Alberta Tactical Rifle 10 round mags. They work
flawlessly with my AR.

C-Product and another brand of LAR pistol mags work well in my S&W AR15. I have heard of this issue though. Maybe state what AR you are using...

Were they ASC mags per chance?

The reason I asked is, I thought the followers in the ASC mags I purchased were not up to par and I replaced all of them with the stronger E Lander anti-tilt follower. Solved my problem.

Never had a prob with C-Products.

Nice tip. Ditch your mags now, for something that maybe possibly will be available in May or June.

In the meantime, the 4 months before new atrs mags are obtainable, I would ship them back from whence they came for warranty.

Just wanted to send an update. I've opened 2/5 mags that I bought. 5 others went to a friend that has no issues in his AR.

Strangely, once I ran the 2 troubled mags with snap caps, they cycled fine.

After that, they cycled fine empty. Maybe the followers adjusted themselves???

My rifle is an Armalite M15A4.

Break in ?

Maybe something was just a bit stiff.

That is an oddball issue.
Usually people complain that they can rack the bolt over a full mag cause they are pinned too tight.
Lar mags aren't pinned so there is not much that can go wrong with them.

So you didn't even try the mags with snap caps or live ammo before freaking out that they "didn't function"?

Please indicate where I "freaked out".

A magazine should not have to be used first in order to function properly. No magazine I've thrown into an auto has caused an inability to cycle so yes, I think this is a worthy consern.

sorry, poor choice of words, i just dont understand how you can do a "function test" without at least trying to cycle ammo through the mag...

Well I am new to ARs, I tried to be very carful as I did not want people to think these mags have an issue.

I've never seen this behavior with about 10 other semi's and thought it was very strange. I even touched base with a few friends that have them as well as the retailer.

I cracked open a third mag and it again exhibits the same thing, fixed once I cycle some dummy rounds.

So I think inclusion this thread will provide some value if others are concerned. Everything suggests that its probably a follower seating adjustment that occurs.

I also think the function test is good. I was really just checking to see if this empty mag locks back the bolt, I think Thats a good think to try before using new mags.
