Hello everyone , i just purchases a new m305 and i noticed that the metal on the receiver heel appears to be pitted or porous . Is this fairly normal ? or should i send it away to be replaced . The main reason i bought one of these were because of the receiver i will post a link to the pictures when i get home , any advice would be much appreciated , Thanks.

I have seen "blemishes" like you describe. They are flaws in the original piece before it was milled out.

The location and severity of the pitting may mean a serious problem or just a cosmetic flaw.

Pictures would be helpful!

If it's on the heel part on top and it's not super deep pitting it's just cosmetic , if it bothers you a lot send the rifle back for a new one though if possible.

Giving you my quick and dirty advice, contact the vendor asap, phone & email.
Before letting this episode/thread turn into drama.

Norinco quality control sucks, and they do have tooling mark "blemishes", but I would NOT accept that in a rifle.

I have seen pitting like this before, never quite this bad tho.

There are some tests that can be run on the receiver to ensure that it is structurally sound. Magna-flux, or x-ray would be very telling.

If there are no structural defects, the pitting can be repaired and the receiver reheat treated. The cost would be about what you have into the rifle already, so probably not an economical solution.

Contacting the vendor is probably your best bet. I believe Reliable is a "stand-up" business. So they should be willing to make it right.

Thanks John I have sent the pictures to reliable gun just waiting to hear back . I understood that the m305 could require a few adjustments and checks before heading to the range but to be honest the receiver was not on my list of potential problems .

just an update , Reliable gun is accepting a return for a refund , Great people to deal with and very understanding, i will be shopping with them in the new year for sure.
