I went and visited a shooting buddy this afternoon and for an indefinate period of time, he has lent me his 'Quigley' style Pedersoli 1874 Sharps in 45-70 with 32" hex barrel and double set triggers. Previously I had a replica of a Remington Rolling Block by Pedersoli and it was a fun thing but I was wondering what any of your thoughts, opinions and/or experiences are with the Sharps replica? The reason I ask is 'usually' when he 'lends' me something, I end up buying it:redface: and I'm already starting to 'feel the need';).

Ummm...err...drool!


But what I'd really like to find is a deal (ya right)on a Sharps chambered in .50-140 after watching a guy shooting one when I was a pup.
 
I shot a .50-140, gorgeous and tears the Hell out of grass when you miss the 300 yard pig. :p

The Sharps replicas are beautiful, and I can't imagine such a rifle be any less reliabe then a C.Sharps or Shiloh, just more affordable. :)

Smokeless. I have a reasonable selection of cast bullets as well as a variety of jacketed that I use in my Marlin 1895GS so I have enough to keep me 'occupied' for a while:D. Plus, I'm retired so time is available.

I envy your location..It was -10*F here this morning and I have loads for 3 rifles to test.. I don't think I'll be getting much done until mid March at th earliest..

A good friend has a Pedersoli RB like the one you had and it sure was a shooter.. He bought a Shiloh Sharps 74 a few years back and is up at Pink Mt. hunting Buffalo this past week with that rifle..

Yes, it's not bad out this way. As we speak it's clear, with a light breeze and cool for around here, -1 C orabout +30 F and no snow;). I was looking forward to trying the rifle out but we have another 'problem':(. Our local Fish & Game Club range is a fairly informal and located a couple of k's up a logging Co. road. In conjunction with the local municipality, that also has property in that area, they've installed a gate which they seem to close at the drop of the hat thereby restricting access to the range. Why the gate can't be relocated further up the road to allow access to municipal property including the range facility is beyond me:confused:, especially seeing as logging Co. land doesn't start until further up the road past that:mad:.

Anyway, pardon my rant but this is a bit of a sore spot with me. I've been waiting to test/try out some Barnes bullet load in a few calibers and now I also want to 'play' with the Pedersoli. There is limited access on weekends but that isn't much help to those like myself who are retired and have time on our hands.
 
The Pedersolis are good rifles. Well built and accurate. But they're not as nicely fitted of finished as a Shiloh or C. Sharps. Still, a pewter forend tip, fine wood and amazing case hardening doesn't make them any more or less fun to shoot.

I've seen a couple of the more authentic Sharps and possibly one day down the road........... At present and for a shooter, the Pedersoli is more within my price range. If I opt to get it and really enjoy it, there may well be an upgrade in quality in future;). Question, is there much if any difference between the firearms made by Pedersoli and what's listed in the Blue Book as Navy Arms??

My 'interest' in that kind of rifle started with what I saw in a scene in a movie years ago. I can't remember much of the show but at the end after an altercation, the 'bad guy' was riding away up a hillside and the somewhat battered 'good guy' went into his cabin and took an old buffalo gun down from above the fireplace. Back outside he looked at the bad guy still riding away, set the rear sight and squeezed off a shot. I seem to recall you could hear what was supposed to be the noise of the bullet going through the air, then a whack. Then, in later years, 'Quigley Down Under', I need a rifle like that;):D.

There's a lot more in the way of variations of the Pedersoli Sharps than I was aware of. I'm guessing from the pictures, the one I have the 'loan' of is the 1874 Sharps Business model, from the pictures on the site. Thanks again, and definately a site address to add to 'my favorites'.

A friend of mine shoots a 40-82 in competition. His bullets can be heard making a helluva hiss headed downrange. The 45-70s on the line don't make any sound like it.
 
Very cool. One of those has been at the edge of my interest for quite some time, but never enough to dump the cash on one. Enjoy, and post some targets if you get the chance.

By the way, I'm glad to see this didn't go the way of the gifted double rifle thread.:stirthepot2:
