Possible PCMR Winchester Find

Let me try a smaller screenshot of the Hartman list. It definitely IS in the range.

I learned something about PCMR 30-30s with this thread, and it was more about Winchester inventory than anything else. The lowest serial number in the survey is 1261247, and the highest is 1342955. There are 460+ records, but the spread is 81,000 numbers. The distribution within the range of numbers is about one rifle per 177 serials. Some are sequential pairs, most are distributed.

So how was Winchester making, storing, shipping and selling their Model 94s? They weren't reserving production blocks with groups of serial numbers per order. Some modern manufacturers have complex numbering sequences so at a glance a knowledgeable person will know almost everything about that firearm. In the truest sense of the word, the PMCR rifles are commercial production, probably purchased in order lots, and Winchester was likely constantly topping up the inventory racks. Production in, shipments out, pull inventory as the Government of Canada checks cleared the bank. The distribution of numbers also tells me they were supporting their commercial distributors and dealers at the same time.

I was at the Parksville gun show last weekend and a vendor had three PCMR Winchesters ranging in price from $1400 to $2350 for a minty one. So they are out there.According to the registry of PCMR rifles, 625 of the 2500 issued are now accounted for.

Look around for Vancouver Police M94’s
They are in the same range as the PCMR’s early 1940’s
But, some of them have the ring sling mounts
They have GVRD marked on the because some of them went to the
Dog Pound !lol They sold them off

I managed to find one myself. As a Ranger this is a huge collector for me. Anybody know why somebody would have put Babbitt on the upper part of the receiver, the square. It had been scraped down but I removed the remainder no marks underneath.

Why put "babbitt" - maybe that was "solder", and someone had attached a side-mount aperture sight that way, without dismantling, rather than drill and tap - although heat from solder would have likely required dismantle anyway?? I have a made-in-1955 - it was already drilled and tapped at factory for aperture sight about there. Was also a thing from WWII Britain at that time (Holland and Holland?) - scope mount bases on the Lee Enfield T rifles were mounted with BOTH screws and then also soldered in place.

From the serial number, I believe this one was made in 1955 - I installed the aluminum Williams aperture sight a few years ago, into pre-existing holes that were drilled and tapped there - I believe those holes were drilled and threaded at the Winchester factory.

I used to have one that looked exactly like yours complete with the Ross rifle barrel band added on. The only difference between mine and yours is I don't recall a "C-Broad Arrow" stamp on the forestock on mine but otherwise identical. I had mine authenticated and for sure, yours is absolutely correct. Nice score!

There are some these PCMR rifles on Vancouver Island that are as good as they get condition wise... they look as new, stiff sling and all.
