Possible problem with Norinco 7.62x39 ammo?

So I just picked up a crate of the Norinco for $300 from you guys and have only been able to fire one round out of it so far. On the round I shot, the case split, causing it to get stuck in the chamber and another round to slam into it. This caused my extractor and bolt to get mucked up.
I then compared a round of the Norinco to each of the other types of rounds I have for it and the bullet is seated deeper on the Norinco than the others which are all the same.
Do I have a defective case of ammo? And if I shoot these again, am I going to have more broken parts?
A little disappointed that this happened and now have a $300 crate of ammo sitting around that I will not use/be able to use.

I buy mostly milsurp ammo...but I am very weary of it.

Did you inspect any of the ammo before you put 5 in the mag and went for it?

All the milsurp I buy for the sks or tokarev gets inspected. I usually break open 5 boxes and pick one from each box and load one in the mag and fire it. 5 booms and healthy ejects, then I start loading mags.

I always keep my eye on the ammo though. I love milsurp ammo because it is cheap, but I never completely trust it.

Having said that, I have never had any problems like you have, and I have shot over 500 norinco rounds through the russian gun.

8-9k rounds fired, maybe 5 or 6 ftf's.

I have never had this problem yet either. I have gone through about 5-6k rounds in my cz and 0 ftf's and 0 fte's. Ejects excellent actually. Pretty much straight up and to the right a bit. Even took out one of the halogen tubes at my range lol

This happened to a guy at my range in Hamilton as well. The red "danger/live range" light right above him was hit by an ejecting shell.

I would send pictures to you, but this happened on Saturday and I immediately gave my gun to the gun smith/owner of the range who brought it to his machine shop to fix it. He removed the round, bolt, and extractor and threw them out (which seemed like the appropriate thing to do with garbage). I didn't know what to do with the ammo since it mucked up my gun once so I tried unloading it to some friends of mine for a minimal loss to me but that didn't work. I didn't think to talk to you guys (Canada Ammo) about this as I didn't think you could help me out.
No offence to you or your products, but I wish I didn't jump on the crate when I saw them posted for that price because now I have $300 in ammo sitting around that has no use.

Years back, I had some East bloc 762 x 54 that, while sold in a case, had cartridges whose bullets were of different weights. Basically, I thought I had say, 149 grain fmj's, but actually had a mix of 180 grain-ish bullets in there as well. This wasn't a manufacture problem, but a packaging thing. Someone along the line poured all the cartridges in a box and sold them. Most wouldn't know/see the difference.

Anyway, I digress. Besides the possibility of an ammo thing, has the rifle been looked at for potential problems/defects? Rifles that have been circulating for a long time can have headspace issues, or a combo of ammo/rifle tolerances, as I've had rifles that shot one brand of factory ammo okay, yet the same brand "chambered hard" in another (virtually new) target rifle.

The lip was broken on the extractor so not repairable. And the bolt was irreparable too. Got the parts and got them machined to fit perfect. All done now. And it was a length-wise split.

FWIW my money is on out-of-battery discharge. Not much else would affect the bolt/extractor.

The fact that the civi 858 have had the OOB (aka full auto sear trip) safety sear removed as part of the conversion to semi can lead to oob. You can see that this is still found in the SKS design. It makes sure the bolt is closed before allowing the hammer to fall.

- was the case left in the chamber, head and all?

- Did it split all the way to the head, or just the neck?

- Can you send us a pic of the ammo compared to the "other" ammo to illustrate the bullet seating you describe?

To split length wise past the neck, the case needs some room to split; either from a headspace issue or an OOB.

Whole case was left in the chamber, needed a case extractor to get it out and even with it it was hard. Round appeared to be regular depth in there but I will confirm once I get home. Also, the split was only part way, not all the way.
And once I get home, I will get a picture of the depth difference. Its not huge, but I know that a couple 1000th of an inch can make a huge difference.
