Possible SVD Reclassification?

As a side note, I don't think we have that many SVDs in the country in possession of 12.x holders. So even it becomes de-prohibited it doesn't mean it will suddenly become available at anything less than 10k :p

Well ... Chinese SVDs are regarded to as very well made copies. The only issue is, there is a debate on whether they were actually made in China or made in Russia and sent to China. If they ever change the prohibited status, and China can make them then you can expect to have them for far less than 10k.

That being said, I'd pay 10k for a Russian one if I could own one.

Should be pretty easy to make a PSL clone out of one... You would need a gun Smith to make a 24" barrel for one though. Expensive, expensive......

If I end up doing one, it won't be that extensive - SVD stock and fore-end, scope and mount, threaded barrel, and a muzzle device similar in appearance. Sort of like what I'm doing with my 'galil' hunter. Not a total clone, more of an homage.

It really won't be an svd unless it's russian, call me a snob if you like ;) And with the sanctions...

That said, i'm tempted to approach interarms and ask if they can get medved rifles in along with dress up kits to make them into svd lookalikes...

Personally, I'd rather have a 24" Vepr In .308 and Dragunov furniture than the real thing.... Call me crazy, but seriously, good affordable 54r ammo is too much of a Hassel to find.

Tiger-9 Тигр-9 is the civilian Version of SVD, it is available in most of Europe as hunting rifle. Technically they are not SVT they are modified a bit for civilian market

You say it's not an SVD unless it's Russian but you're willing to dress up Medved ... all in the same post.

Mind blown.

Are they also already classified?

I remember when these rifles were being sold as non-restricted in the SIR mail order catalog (as well as other merchants). How many people registered these when the time came is highly debateable....

If you guys are going to trash a svt-40 or other cool rifle, why not just ruin a Chinese sks and take the bayonet lug off and add a choate svd style stock. And scope it. It would be a handier length and more fun to trash than a getting scarce svt-40.

Because:
1 - SVT 40 fire the proper round
2 - SVT 40 has proper barrel length
3 - SVT 40 Is or was just as cheap
4 - SVT 40 Has cosmetically a better positioned gas system
5 - SVT 40 offers a more big DMR rifle feel than a SKS carbine.
