Possibly a dumb question...

Are there rabbits still out in S.W. Ontario now that there is snow on the groud? With it be worth while spending a day out with my SxS looking for them?

What do you mean by "still out"?....it's not like they hibernate.

I saw a "varying hare" about 3 weeks ago that was already patching up with white.

It's always worthwhile to get out in the bush. :)

I don't think you'll see any. They've likely migrated south to their wintering grounds in mexico.

p.s. the hares around Ottawa are white aswell. Much easier to spot.

For my group, rabbit does not truly begin until there is snow on the ground. Snow flattens the vegetation and makes cottontails more visible, it aids both the hunters and the hounds by revealing rabbit tracks and, most importanly, concentrates rabbits in to winter covers.
