Post freeze pistol purchase

After a long wait my rpal was delivered right before the freeze so i was able to buy 5 crappy overpriced handguns in panic.. none that really wished to have….

If they unfreeze i will probably sell them all… because the ones i got were junk but thats the only things i could find with the money i had.

My guess is that when they unfreeze, people will go bezerk again and all new transferts will take 6 months again.

So even if you had your rpal on time, you wouldn't have many choices to pick from anyway.. Every gunshops sold their best handguns , special edition , special colors , back in june.. in september/october, the choices were limited to pretty much surplus and left over, and they were overpriced.

What im trying to say is that you didn't miss the boat in october…. You missed the boat in june.

As for what you can do legally.

Make friends at your range club.. they will let you use their handguns… and since you have your rpal, you might be able to use their handguns more freely (without someone standing beside you…)
You won't have to worry about transportation and storage either.

Buy a $5000 antique.. but it comes with some safety risks and the pain to find the ammo for it. Not worth it.

Work for a gumsmith, few gunshops have a private range for testing, you won't be able to bring anything home but atleast you can fire handguns at work if they have a private range.

You can also work part time in any shooting clubs… this will allows you to try a bunch of guns for free.

I also want to add that owning a handgun , having one in your house is kinda pointless unless you are a collector or something.
You can't use it at home anyway.. it also comes with a higher risk to get a criminal record if you don't store or transport it properly.

If they decide to unfreeze, you will be able to buy something the first day.. those who don't have thei rpal won't be able to.

What do you want a handgun for, is the first question I'd ask.

To use at the range and participate in IPSC and 3 gun and other recreational activities. Looks like theres no hope besides the hope that conservatives get elected again and then unfreeze the ban.

That depends upon whether you would choose to look at things as 'half-empty' or 'half-full'.

You can still obtain non-restricted firearms for IPSC PCC and Shotgun, you can still become licensed for restricted and then (legally) borrow a handgun (from the registered owner) for IPSC, and you can still start participation in an approved handgun sport (sanctioned by an approved sanctioning body) and then buy restricted handguns deemed suitable for those activities, or - if you prefer - you can skip those options and - instead - just throw up your hands and say: "Why me?"

Recreational use is the only activity this bill actually affects. I suspect a surge of underground, private ranges will be opening shortly. You maybe SOL, I don't know what would happen if you tried to register a handgun with the CFO that you were already in possession of, probably wouldn't go too well.

Sometimes the case but reloading for most of the calibers is no harder than any modern one. I have a very solid Antique Colt Peacemaker in 38 Special. Obviously easy to obtain ammo for. There are many good Antique options. Plus the bonus of no ATT, ATC, Registration, etc.

Cheers

It is only a matter of time before somebody "leases" or "rents" a handgun long-term under the guise of "Lending" it to the the otherwise pistol-less RPAL Holder in question... Where there is a need, there is a business opportunity.
