Hi All,

Although I'm not a "freshman" newbie, the kinda shooting I was use to has now ceased! Please allow me to explain.

So I have been around firearms for 30 years (with breaks) when I started with Side by Side and Under/over shotguns at my friends dads skeet range back home in the UK. Although I never owned a shotgun as I was 14, I do recall having much fun at the range.

My next encounter with firearms was in 1989 when I joined the British Army. From Sub-machine guns, SLR to the SA-80 and finally the browning 9mm service pistol.

My question are below based on the shooting I wish to take up at my local club.

Type of shooting: Build up accuracy and have fun

1) What type of shooting does Canada have to offer? I'm not too serious about competition shooting but would like to appreciate the options.

2) What are the pros/cons between 9mm and say .40

3) What reccomendations can you guys offer for a low maint handgun based on my experience and type of shooting I have expressed. I really like the CZ 75 SP01 accu-shadow.

Thanks for looking and adding your piece.

Buy a 22 pistol and rifle, get that Shadow and away you go for quite awhile it will be fairly inexpensive unless you go crazy with the CZ

I just started shooting IDPA locally. Find the ranges closest to you in your province that hold these events. Not expensive here at my range, $15 a match, 200 rounds of ammo. No holster certification needed (at my range anyway). If you wanna be official, $60 USD per year for IDPA USA membership required. Just visit the link above to get all the details or find info at local clubs that offer.

The CZ75 SP01 Shadow would be perfect for IDPA, add holster and mag pouch and you are set. That CZ is prefect for ESP class.

9mm is cheaper and easier to shoot than .40 - Shadow only comes in 9mm as far as I know.

I don't play Rugby but I see em playing when I walk my dog around Burnaby Lake.
Don't know too much about the Accu Shadow but I the original Shadow is awesome with decent hand loads. 2x the price won't help you get more accurate but if you got the money go for it. Personally I think a 1911 in 9mm would be a better value and just as accurate. Kimber Custom 2 Stainless 9mm can be had for under $1100 which leaves room for huge customizability.

If you are only Punching Paper go 9MM / lower cost and less recoil
Cz 75 is a nice gun and with adjustable sights can be very accurate to 50 yds and beyond

most 9MM and the 40S&W are built on the same frame size
9MM will feed (just a hair better) for that reason in the small frame size and make it more reliable (than the 40 short and stubby )
but if set up correctly there should be no problems feeding the 9MM and the 40S&W in any gun

If you ever do start shooting compitions shooting the 40S&W As Major PF Gain you a few points in if you don't shoot A Zone ---But shooting 9mm and shooting in the A zone = Sometimes shooting faster
