I can hit my 10" gong at 100m 3 or 4 times out of 5 rounds. The battle sights cover the entire target. The system was made to "often hit a torso target out to 300m."
I'd suggest you use a 6-o'clock hold so you can see the target. i can group 5-6" @ 100 and 2-3 at 50 with irons. I painted the front pin and the rear sight with White appliance enamel. Have you tried the "Zero target" that's designed for SKS / AK adjustment? It has directions on how to adjust per where hits land. I think it can be found on Yooper John's site ?

With iron sights at 100yrds both my sks were 2.5in-4in. That was all based on 10 shot groups as I don’t feel 3 is sufficient. Mostly I shot surplus, I found brown laquered Chinese stuff to best shooting surplus. Surprisingly, the Russian surplus I had was the worst shooting and the Czech and Romanian was in the middle. Geco (owned by Ruag) ammo was about the same as the Chinese surplus. I’m guessing 2.5in is about the limit of my sks and that was after I took the bayonet off and shimmed the stock a bit tighter. At 300m I was able to hit a 15in x 20in plate 8/10 with irons which was more of an achievement of my eyesight then the guns accuracy.

I usually sight in an SKS on something approximating a 3x5" card and I can see it over the sight post just fine. Mind you thats over, not on. Like Buck1950 said, use a 6 o'clock hold.
I mean if it covers 10" at 100 good luck ever hitting a torso at 3 doing it that way. You'd aim for midsection from 0-300 using the battle sight setting. Not with your sight covering a target, right?

The 4" 10 shot groups surprise me even.
