Good evening all. A friend of mine has one of these sitting in a closet that he is thinking about selling. I have absolutely no idea of the value and everything I come across states anywhere from 100 - 1500 pending condition. I figured this would be the best place to ask. I don't have photos at the moment, but will try to get some to give you a better idea. serial is in 242### range. It doesn't appear to have ever been refinished or anything, and though there is some VERY minor surface blemishes (slight spots of discolouration) the wood appears to be VG +, rifling quitestrong and the bluing probably 90-95%. I'd say it is in VG+ condition. Any thoughts on value from folks who know these rifles? I know, pictures would really help, and I'll get some of those, but a range guesstimate would help. Thanks in advance!

Without photos its difficult to be accurate, however a range for the described condition might be $400-$650 for the Winchester 62A. The serial# dates it to 1947-48. The $1500 price would be for a NIB model c/w box and unfired. The $100 would be for a rusted wall hanger.

Go to Rimfirecentral under the Winchester section . There is a link in the sticky to take you to where you need to be to find manufacture date by serial #. I would be interested in buying this if and when it becomes available .

I used a recent Blue Book for gun values that has a section at the back with various manufactures and serial# dates. Its also where I confirmed the range of values I quoted. The photos are helpful to narrow the range. I also have a library of Winchester reference books as well as other reference books. The Winchester 62A was the second .22 I owned in the late fifties. Lots of great memories from that rifle but I had to trade it against a Marlin 39 Mountie as I just had to have a lever action and couldn't afford two guns as a young teenager.

Thanks Ironsides. I am trying to find a source for serial number references as I have been planning on taking on a large project for sometime. preference is electronic document though as the project requires importing said data to a database... physical books = far to much data entry :) Thanks all, I think buddy is going to take this one in for an appraisal.

Sold a pre war refinshed 62 this last fall for $400 and sold to a good friend my mint 99% cond. 62a for $550, but would have wanted another C note from a stranger. good luck Dale Z!
