potential sks issue with reflex magnifier?

I have a tapco t6 stock on my sks. It has the picatinny front rail on top of the gas tube. This is where i plan on mounting a soon to aquire reflex or holographic sight. Later i plan on obtaining one of those receiver covers with a rail integrated on it, to mount a quick detach magnifier to use in conjunction with the reflex sights up front. What im wondering, and am having a hard time finding answers to anywhere is this:

It seems its best to use thses two in conjunction on a full rail system like an AR or something, so that the magnifier can be attached (or sits) immediately behind the reflex sights themselves. If your familiar with the set up of the sks and its bolt, this is virtually impossible (on my budget). Do you think (or know) if having the magnifier further away from the reflex than average will affect it majorly?

I know that the major complaint for most of these magnifiers is a short eye relief of only about 1.5-2" to begin with. I know im not shooting a .50 here, but id hate to lose any more eye relief than 1.5". The small recoil of a 7.62x39 will likely still be enough for the magnifier to give my eye the unwanted kiss from time to time. I have only ever found one picture of this set up or anything like it on an SKS, unfortunately no literature or opinions to match it. Im very curious....

Thanks for any insight :)

This might not be what you want to hear, but it's what I have:

If you search optics and the SKS, you will find common themes among the many set ups: they don't hold zero.
Your options for solid optics include drill and tap options, each with their own drawbacks, or a be tactical mount that replaces the rear sight leaf.

I have personal experience with the bc tactical and a vortex sparc.
It currently holds zero, but I've stopped shooting it until I get around to the ejection port mod - because the downfall of the be tactical mount is the SKS violently ejects its brass (steel!!!) and it strikes the optic. I'm no physicist - but I know that it will only accept so much physical abuse until it breaks.

I'm going to suggest you research your SKS optics options prior to engaging. It just may save you a lot of money in the long run - and you'll actually have a set up that works.

I've seen a few guys personally at the range with their SKS set ups - and each and every one of them put the rifle away after spending much time frustrated with the zero.

I'm sure you will do as you please, but consider this a helpful warning on SKS and optics.

Thanks Ghostintheshell
Those are all good points to consider. as far as i know, most problems of losing zero is because its on the (slightly loose) reciever cover that most people mount their scopes. My gas tube piece is incredibly tight fitting to the barrel of the SKS, and the plastic piece from the stock kit with the rail on it is tightly secured into its place. (thanks to overly painful fitting process). So im hoping that i wont lose zero on the gas tube mount idea. Of course, thats why im keeping all this lopw budget :). I had very much considered replacing the elvation adjustments for a mounting system, but have only found one specific to a higher end sighting system that i cant aford or recall. but it was flat with 2 upward screws as opposed to a rail to mount to. So in a nutshell, im banking on my front grip holdoing zero, and wont be putting a "scope" that requires p[erfect zero on the place succeptible to shifting, simply a magnifier. And ive been on google tons about it, that, and now this proposal on the forums IS my research :)

id say if i could find a mounting system to replace the elevation adjustments, that would be the best i can think of on my budget. Any solutions in that regard with a picatinny?

Ok so BCTactical.ca has the mount that replaces my rear sights. But any idea if having the reflex sight not immediatly butt up in front of the magnifyer will pose issues?

The problem with the BC tactical mount is its very short - but this was done by design as to (a) not interfere with the use of stripper clips and (b) allow the removal of the gas tube (lever functions). With the ejection port mod, this will be ideal for the red dot - but as for any additional magnification / attachments, I simply don't think there is sufficient room for it.

Do you have pictures or links to the pieces you are looking to install?

im not profficient enough to put pics up on the forum. But ya its that small one from bc tactical. im going tonight to get the red dot from a fellow forum member so ill see at that point if it will fit on the rail. As far as magnifying in the future: Yes it would be beyond impossible to fit that on the mount with the sight itself, but i was going to get one of those reciever covers from marstar or the like. It literally replaces the reciever cover with a new one with a rail on it. Then mount the magnifyer to that. As a "scope" would likely lose zero most if not every time one cleaned his rifle. (after every shoot for me). So i figure if the red dot is zerod in up front it will hopefully hold, and since the magnifier doesnt require a precise zero, it would be fine further back. (based on what i read). What i still CANT find is any testimony to having the magnifier so far back from the reflex sight, when its usually butt up immediatly behind it on the sme rail. (which again is imp[ossible with this application).

Be careful with the red dot sights.
I got on that came with my bc tactical mount.
It's a Chinese red / green dot. It didn't have nearly enough windage adjustment.
I couldn't even zero it at 15 yards - it was still off by inches.

I went with the sparc as I have other application I can use it for too.
Good red dot for the cash for sure!
