I see that people set the legs to fold forward when the bipod is mounted. Is it wrong to mount it the other way? My thought is that recoil won't be trying to fold the legs on you.

It CAN be mounted either way if you want. However - I have yet to see an instance where the recoil 'folds the legs'. Unless you have 20lb sandbag on top of the rifle pushing the legs into the soft soil... it just aint gonna happen in my opinion.

I've used Harris bipods on everything from .22LR to .300WM and never had the issue you're describing.

When you shoot, you push toward the front to immobilize, ( i do ) if you do that while installed the other way, you will close it... JP.

I use a harris bipod on my 338 lapua and it has never folded on recoil
and before you ask, the anser is no ( the is no brake)
if you hol your rifle corectly it will never fold on recoil dont mater how hat the recoil is
if you mount it reverse, it will be easyer to walk in dirty bush, but that's it

If you have never used one, the springs are quite stiff. Legs accidentally folding is a non issue. They are generally mounted with the legs forward to leave room to grip the fore end when not shooting prone, but can be mounted the other way as well.
