I am rather confused by the shipping practices of some of the retail stores here in Canada. Cabelas will ship both powder and primers via a dangerous goods courier, but states they can not ship via Canada Post as they tell me Canada Post will not carry dangerous goods. However, another retailer in BC ships me both powder and primers via Canada Post (and has for years) as they state no one else will carry it for them, at least for a reasonable cost. The packages are clearly labelled as to what is in them, so Canada Post is very aware they are handling powder and or primers. BTW, shipments by Canada Post with powder in them are no more expensive than anything else that is not a dangerous good. Odd....

Does anyone know exactly which carriers actually do or do not handle powder and primers? It would seem that the retailers don't even know for sure, and Canada Post gives me totally contradicting answers depending on which outlet I speak to. I also can't find specifics on their website regarding dangerous goods, specifically smokeless powder and or primers.

Ah, the old reasonable cost factor..... When did this become a factor for you and not the rest of us? hello I wouldn't be sharing that dealers name on the forum. FS

I left the retailer's name out for a reason...lol. I won't ruin a good thing.

I just don't understand the shipping rules/laws for this stuff... it seems it is different depending on who you talk to, or what retailer you use, or which CP outlet you ask.... I am just confused. If it's as easy as wrapping up some powder in a box and mailing it via Canada Post, it sure would make things easier for us wouldn't it?

Yup it sure would, but some one that wrote the firearms act had concluded that primers and powder are dangerous goods and need to be handled as such, same with loaded ammo, how it can be dangerous is hard for me to believe. FS

I've always thought it's a big no-no to ship powder, primers and even loaded ammo via the mail.

Sorry, has nothing to do with the firearms act or the persons who wrote them.

This falls under the jurisdiction of the Dangerous Goods Regulations - Transport Canada - I believe that there are also postal regs dealing with hazardous goods.

If you are shipping or transporting dangerous goods you best read up on them.............

I am still not sure what you meant by this being a factor for me and not anyone else as I posted .....

Their words, not mine. Sorry if I misunderstood your post or was unclear in my own post. I do not always get my point across clearly and quite often results in a misunderstanding, please bear with me.

But back to my original question

Does anyone know exactly which carriers actually do or do not handle powder and primers?

I have been told by someone that I work with that a certain dealer in Southern B.C. has mailed him powder and primers through Canada Post on a few occasions. That dealer is risking getting into trouble if Canada Post is made aware of this.

i recieved powder from a retailer in bc by canada post about 5 years ago i am pretty sure this is illegal i never said anything i assumed they would have smartened up or got caught by now dhl is not super expensive
