Advice Please,
I am planning a trip to Maine in September. Can I buy powder there and bring it across the border on my way back? Not by mail, with me in my car.

Is there limits to the amount?

Should I manage to find the cash for a new press, perhaps a Dillon, are US prices better or are Canadian dealers that sell Dillon competitive with buying in the USA?

Any input is appreciated,

on the powder, the answer is NO, Zip, NADA, ZERO.

However, if you have the paperwork indicating your are attending a shooting match, you might get away with it. But then, where is your shooting gear and the permits for that stuff?

You will have to surf to compare pricing on the Dhillon.

According to U.S. laws,you need a permit from the U.S. authorities to export reloading components including powder, from the USA into Canada.You can however legally bring reloading presses and tooling into Canada from the USA without a permit.
 
for the powder legally unless you have an export permit... no you can't bring it out of the US...

As for the Dillon stuff enjoy ... My prices work out to just about the same if you bought it from the US... You will save becuase of the shipping costs of you exemption from tax at the border...If your gone long enough and don't use it on other things...

You don't pay duty on any reloading products manufactured in North America,regardless of the price,or how long you have been in the USA.
 
There is information on the Canada Customs website about impporting powder into Canada, don't quote me but I believe it is 10- 1lb or 2 8lb containers, it sounds odd but that is what I remember.

I drove a 150KM/h once on the QE2 here in Alberta.(posted at 110)
Since no one stoopped me it must be legal.......................:confused:;)

Some day one of our, I get away with it all the time hero's will get stopped in an Export check, and then stand there with a really stupid look on their face going "How did this happen."

They won't be standing there long.. soon will be Sitting in a cruiser on the way to a federal pen and then a court and a minimum $5000 fine... Seizure of their car, multi-year ban on entry into the us and through it's airspace (really limits travel!)

And the smuggling offense will be shared with Canadian officials!
 
at the time i did not know. and neither did any one where i bought the stuff. Canada customs didn't seem to care. so i assummed it was legal. Obviousy not, Thanks for the info..

You should report yourself immediately to your nearest US Border Patrol Station for arrest, and punishment. ;)

"...Canada customs didn't seem to care..." They wouldn't. They don't enforce U.S. export laws. The U.S. Homeland Security guys take their job very seriously. Absolutely no sense of humour either. They have been known to do spot checks of Canadian vehicles leaving the U.S. You got lucky.
