You should not be playing with OAL to alter pressures. Set the OAL to whatever your gun likes for proper functioning and then change the powder charge to get the velocity you want, within pressure limitations. If you can't get the performance you like within charge weight limits, then use a different powder.

I with Simar... i would change powders.. if you cant get the velocity you are looking for in your reloads..
I also agree with the others about OAL. I set my OAL and then load to get my velocity.. being careful to look for signs of pressure build up...
There are many good powders for 9mm ... Titegroup and N320 are good choices but are fast burning powders and care must be taken when developing a load not to load to too extreme pressures. The other benefit of these fast powders is that you use less and there is less perceived recoil..
I use N320 in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP as well as 38 sp.. Its a clean burning powder with soft shooting rounds..

I am using the latest Hornady manual and I have tried other powders and I can not get any were near the speeds that the book says for given amounts of powder.
the only time I have gotten any were near what the books say is when I used universal and I loaded in between min and max load and I got way more speed then what it said max would give. 4.7gn OAL 1.090
