powder chargebar micrometer......

Just picked up a couple. I plan on using one on my 650 and 550. They feel very solid once attached and the micrometer adjustment is very firm with no wiggle.

Will be calibrating against Longshot, VV N320 and Titegroup.

I'm thinking if it works well, would have saved me buying extra powder measures. Ah well, I like to have a complete tool head set up for each variation of ammo I reload anyhow (eg 9mm - 147gr & 124gr).

Watch out with titegroup and small charges. They look to have a similar profile to the Lee adjustable charge bar. I had a terrible problem with powder bridging and getting squibs. A round cavity gives me much more consistent results. Not sure if this one will do the same, but it's something I'd keep an eye on.

The charge bar is standard Dillon. It's the micrometer that has been added to it to adjust the charge volume to replace the standard bolt. I have noticed some variances in measured speed of my 9mm loads using Longshot and Titegroup.

Have managed to get it down to a spread of ~60fps and avg deviation of ~12fps. I benchmark against ammo from Custom Reloading Services and measure their ammo at a spread of ~ 25 fps and avg deviation of ~6fps. I'm getting much more consistent results with VV N320. Getting a spread of ~35fos and avg deviation of ~8fps. Thankfully no squibs over ~15k rounds loaded and shot this year.

I'm not really expecting this micrometer adjustment to make any improvement on the accuracy and repeatability of my throws. I'm just thinking it would be much more convenient to get back to known throw weights once I've recorded what the related micrometer readings are. Also, once I've charted what the various readings and weights are, would be easier to dial into a new charge weight.

What sort of problems did they mention? Can you share what the search terms were that you used to find the other threads? Just tried searching under Uniquetek + Dillon, and Micrometer + Adjustment + Dillon and didn't find very much.

Have on for my Dillon but after reviews I saw on other forums I decided to keep it in the box..

I am satisfied with the ones I have for my small and large charge bars. Once you have set up a spreadsheet for the powder of your choice using the provided template, it can interpolate a micrometer setting for whatever charge you want to throw. It won't always be right on, but it will get you within fine-tuning distance of where you want to be. This saves quite a bit of setup time for your powder measure.

A no-brainer for my SDB - I have them on the arrondo powder slide and retrofitted them to a small slide. Superbly precise and easy to get back to a previous charge - never had a problem - just the opposite - they are a joy to use

got some time to run some calibration loads through my Dillon small powder measure bars with the micrometer adjustment installed. A little time consuming, but some good results. I did each measurement by setting the micrometer adjustment at .25 intervals, throwing 20 powder throws to settle the powder down, and then throwing 10 and measuring that total weight.

I then entered the data into the calibration templates supplied by UniqueTek. It produces a nice chart, and if you have a specific charge weight you want to hit, will calculate what the micrometer setting should be. This is just a starting point - you still need to validate and tweak if necessary.

A quick note, excellent service from UniqueTek. I needed an older version of their template to be compatible with my old version of Excel. Sent an email Friday afternoon, got an acknowledgment response Friday evening, and got an email with the correct template attached Saturday morning because their service manager "just happened to drop by the office". And this is on their Thanksgiving weekend! I'm really liking the quality of the micrometer adjusting bar, and with customer service like this, I'm confident they would be able to help me with any problems I come across.
