What are you guys all using for measuring your powder charges? Dippers? Powder throwers, some function of a progressive press?

I am just wondering if it is necessary to scale every charge?

I am going to start with 231.

Thanks

I use a Dillon 650. I weight every tenth round just to be sure even though I have a power measure on mine. If your just starting I would start with a single stage and weight them all. Just my 2 cents.

Progressive.. have Lyman book on my lap right now. Using cast or jacket bullet ? What weight in grains ?

I pull random cases as it loads and double check the charge. Use Hornady electric scale then double check that on beam scale.

I'm a little odd though have four powder scales. Two beam two electric . With scale weights. Forty years of reloading you tend to collect or get a lot of stuff.

auto-disks for the Lee, they will always load below what the Lee book tells you, so you know that it is safe to work up to the published load.

I use the auto disc unless I'm going for a specific load, say a near max. Then I use the dippers, just for a scoop, not for a measure. They(dipper) do throw consistent charges assuming you dip into your powder the same way every time.

I don't scale every powder throw, I play around at the start to confirm it's throwing powder consistently with 4 or 5 charges. Then every 10th is scaled, for the most part.

Lee Perfect Powder Measure.

Using Unique and 231.

Before starting a new batch, I Throw 10 and weigh that and divide by 10.
Do this three times to verify that the charge is on.

I do this again after every 100 rounds.

It's never been off yet. About 2000 rounds made so far.

If one of those Lee, yellow plastic dippers will throw the right amount, you are away. If none is right size, make your own.
This one weighs out 13 grains of Lil'Gun, the charge for my 22 Hornet. You can file, or grind the top down, until it is just what you want. Dip it through the powder to over fill it, then level the top with a card.

i use the adjustable powder bar in the lee - have for years- but my powder bar isn't made by lee

i use the "lee perfect powder measure" it throws charges that are more than accurate for basic plinking and hunting loads i use the lee beam scale to set it up and then check every 10th charge or so to ensure accuracy....never had a problem yet....i suppose it your loading high acuuracy benchrest rifle loads then you would want to weigh each one and in that case you will probably want a digital scale....i find the beam one very slow to use....;)

Sounds good to me, I think I will be using my lee powder measure, just because scaling (digital) every charge takes an enormous amount of time.

Check every 10th round like you all suggest, sounds like I will be ok,

Thanks
